3. Good morning Clint!
I had a number of good laughs during the night. I can empathize with you not wanting to get out of bed--I often don't want to myself.

Hey, I got a 5% raise!

5. Hello, Miss Buffy!
Raises are ALWAYS sweet, huh? I just wish companies weren't so damned stingy with their percentages of increases. 5%...I think they should do like 20%!

7. Heck, I normally only get 2-3%
5% is a freaking gift as far as I'm concerned. Human services is not a field to go into if you want to make a living wage, which is why I'm hoping to get out. If I could survive on my pay I'd like to stay in the field since I like helping people, but I can't live on one job nor do I want to be working two jobs for the rest of my life.

12. What a double edged sword, huh?
Luckily, I don't have to work two jobs. Retail is the same way...the maximum percentage increase anyone can get is 3% in my company. That's barely a cost of living increase. The good thing is, I like every person on our team and our store is beautiful, and I like working there. I guess that has to count for something.

19. I've worked in the world-o-retail myself
So I know how their pay scales and raises work--not so great unless you're in a big sales job or high management.

You are right, however, that having a good team and working environment count for a lot. I've had situations where I've been making decent money but had horrible conditions so I just had to quit to save my sanity. On the flip side, I've had jobs with good enough working conditions that I can tolerate lower pay--even if it meant getting a second job.

all I did taking a class where we did the prints ourselves. And only b/w pictures. Right now I take more color ones and I get them developed.

And yes it was a big surprise. This year I asked for the zoom. I want only that and that the whole family gives it to me together. Zooms are expensive also.

35. Um, because FPL sucks the big one?
If a bird craps on the wire, power goes out. This is major damage to the substations (200 of them, I think) and transmission lines. It's going to take a LONG time for them to get their act together on this one. One of my husband's coworkers had her power go out a few days ago after it had been on. I don't think she has it back yet.

Sorry to wake up complaining ... and thanks for the hug. It helps.

44. Yeah ... I bet I could do it.
I can call my husband when he gets to work. It went out JUST as he left the driveway. He took the motorcycle, so he wouldn't have his cell phone on yet. Maybe I'll listen to my Rod Stewart CDs while I munch on chocolate and take a candlelight bath before the water heater cools down. :) I'll probably gain 10 pounds from this hurricane, but you do what you gotta do to keep sane.
