Why is Bill Frist called a "cat skinner"?
I mean I don't put it past him - but I missed out on this story. Call me out of the loop - but could someone explain the background on this?

1. When he was a med student,
he went to the pound, pretended to adopt a bunch of cats, then practiced on them.

From Wikipedia:

While in medical school, Frist obtained cats from animal shelters, under pretense of adoption as pets, for school research experiments in which he killed the animals. In a 1989 autobiography, Frist described his deception in obtaining these shelter cats as "heinous and dishonest". He attributed his behavior to the pressures of school. The incident sparked controversy after a 2002 Boston Globe story repeated the account.

14. Frist is not the only cat-killing Republican
Three doors down from my place is a hardcore neocon Republican activist household. And they killed one of my cats in a victory orgy after the "re-election" of W.

A week before, the cat came back with a severe puncture to his back. The puncture could only have been done by a human tool. I treated him and let him back out - that was the mistake.

Their Christmas decoration said "wise men still seek Him." Well, I've wised up, and I don't seek the Christian God anymore, considering all the killings the Christians engage in.

4. And also, the point I don't get...
I took anatomy in high school, and one of my classes involved cutting open a pig's heart. The teacher even let me look through the anatomy/physiology catalog and I noticed there were euthanized cats in there (don't worry; the pig's heart was as complicated as it got).

So, why would he adopt them just to kill them when there are companies that already sold euthanized cats for dissection?

Unless he's a complete assho.....oh, n/m.

5. Exactly!! I had to dissect a pig fetus in high school!
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 11:30 AM by Shell Beau
It was horrible for me and I vowed to never do it again, but there are companies that provide fetuses. No need to adopt and kill live cats.

11. Luckily I was able to opt out for religious reasons
My second term Bio teacher in my freshman year of HS was thankfully Pagan-friendly and let me sit out the dissection no questions asked. I had to take a test instead.

13. Luckily for me we had groups of 4 to each pig. I didn't have
to do any cutting. But the smell was bad enough and seeing the little tiny pigs was sad for me.

7. That is indeed the question....
I've never taken an anatomy class where what I was dissecting wasn't already provided....

He's just a vicious sadistic evil little fuck.

10. From what I've read
euthanizing them first wasn't high on his 'to do' list.

12. he was experimenting on ways to restart a heart that had stopped
Remember, the man is a heart surgeon. That's why he needed to start with living cats. You can't restart a heart that's been dead and fixed for weeks.

6. Goes back to his days as a med student
Almost everybody in pre med has to dissect a cat (a corpse provided by the university). He however got cats from shelters, stold pets etc. and is proud of it.

I understand the need for med students to learn anatomy and physiology in a "hands on" way. But there are appropriate avenues to achieve that.

The term is usually used to indicate his lack of compassion and ethics.
