My new upstairs neighbors need to die!

I've nicknamed them "the Lockhorns." If they aren't fighting, they're thump-thumping and stomp-stomping across my ceiling to a point at which the nose wakes me up every single morning, even though I wear earplugs to bed.

The building manager has warned them to cool it, the cops have been out here twice so far because of them, but still they persist in making my homelife miserable.

But am I vindictive? No! In fact, to show my neighbors just to show non-vindictive I am, I'm about to bestow the gift of music upon my new neighbors.

I've just pointed my stereo speakers toward the ceiling. Next, I'll put Funkadelic's MAGGOT BRAIN into the CD player, crank up the volume to the point of distortion, hit the "repeat" button, and leave for work.

Have a nice day, Lockhorns!

1. Good solution
Figure out their sleep schedule and go stay with a friend for a couple of days. Then offer them a truce.

3. Amazing how clumsy and inconsiderate people can be.
Walking like a cat is much lower impact and better for your downstairs neighbors.

4. Careful. I did that once.
In the exact same situation. They cops were called and when nobody answered they broke down the door because they thought I overdosed or something.

9. Been there.
Although it was always my downstairs neighbors who drove me to distraction. Somehow, they always managed to find where the head of my bed was and set up the drill press, which they used all night long.

The guy downstairs had a girl in to stay overnight once, and being the incurable romantic that he was, he'd lit a candle on the table next to the sofa. While they were dorkin', sometime around four in the morning (in the dead of winter, of course), the candle fell over and ignited the end of the sofa. Nothing like waking up in an apartment full of smoke, to a half-dressed metalhead banging on your door saying, 'hey, sorry about the smoke! Don't worry, we managed to put it out, you'll be okay,' and then having to open all my windows for the rest of the night so I didn't suffocate from burning plastic fumes.

I always loved the 'Billy Balofsky' routine from The Young Ones:

"I've not always been mad, you know, but um... I was actually driven mad by the indifference of architects and council planners. You see, I live in a tower block, and um, the thing about those is, there's terrible noise problems, 'cause there's no noise insulation at all, you know, and eight floors below you, there's always some bastard who's got a Yamaha home organ, you know. You're just about to go to sleep and you hear this "DOOT DOOT! TCH-TCH, DOOT DOOT! TCH-TCH, ROLL-OUT-THE-BARRELS! DOOT-DOOT, TCH-TCH, DOOT DOOT, TCH-TCH" And like, the people who live upstairs from me, I can't understand what they're doing, you know, I listen. And all I can hear is this weird noise that goes, "Whoom whoom! Blam blam! Whoom whoom! Blam blam!" It sounds, right, it sounds like two elephants on a motorbike riding round and round, while a seal bangs a kipper on the table! I went upstairs to complain, and the door was answered by this elephant in a crash helmet! Standing behind him's this seal going, "What is it now, Ralph?" "

13. careful part II
I can only imagine how you must dread going home.
Be CAREFUL friend. These people have shown no respect for you or the law, I would be very careful about ticking them off. They don't sound to stable, resonable and they just may be dangerous!
Good luck and God Bless.
P.S. do you have a tenents council or home owners group to go to for help?:o

17. Actually, I had an attack of conscience...

...not long after I got to work. So I actually went home and shut the damned stereo off. It had been blasting for less than an hour.

14. oh my god....are you me?
SAME THING going on at my place--new (rude, inconsiderate, obnoxious, stupid) young couple just moved in upstairs, and it's the same situation. They fight constantly--or, to be more precise, she throws immature tantrums on a daily/nightly basis (last night she amused herself by slamming the door repeatedly to punctuate her tantrum)--and they stomp--STOMP!!--, slam furniture around and throw (apparently huge heavy) things onto the floor constantly.

I've lived in this apartment for four years, and they're the fifth set of renters to live above me. None of the previous tenants--even a couple of guy twice as big as the new guy--was ever this loud or this inconsiderate.

I've had to go upstairs and ask them to please keep it down so many times I've lost count--and I'm not the type to complain, generally.

They moved in about a month ago--thank GOD I'm moving in another month or two myself.
