Software question - sound recording
Does anyone know of any inexpensive sound recording programs for Windows?

I have tried to do voice recordings with the built in recorder using the mic, but the volume ends up being very low...if I turn the volume up on the mic, then the sound is full of static and white noise.

2. Try Audacity, it's freeware
works pretty well and has some basic filtering features. Another good idea is to spend $30 on a noise cancelling headset mic.

6. Hi KW!
:hi:

There's also Goldwave, but you've already been told about Audacity and that's probably better. :)

8. More than likely..
.... the low volume problem has to do with your sound-card volume-control settings and not recorder.

If the new program you try has integrated volume controls, that will help a lot. And Recorder is really too basic to be very useful.

But you, even with a new program, might have to pull up your Volume Control control-panel app and make some adjustments :)

10. The best one I've used is the old Cakewalk Guitar Studio 2.
While it is out of date, it still runs extremely well on both my old pIII desktop, and my brand new laptop. The recording quality was limited only by your computer's sound card. I bought it brand new about 6 years ago for $150.

I would definitely consider buying their new products, but this one is still so good that I haven't needed to. I would highly suggest checking them out if you need to do a lot of recording.

17. Cubase is good for higher-end on PC, but Audacity works for most stuff
If you get ambitious and want to move up to a "demo"-level recorder, Cubase is pretty good. It's been around for ten years and has a solid rep, and runs well on PC-based hardware.

Audacity is good for most applications, though, and you can't beat the price. :hi:
