My cat just died.
He lay down on his side, had trouble breathing, had a few spasms and moaned a bit and died. We're wrapped him up so my daughter can have the option of saying goodbye to the little guy. I'll give her the option of burying him behind the pond or having him creamated.

3. I'm so sorry!
I have had many, many kitties over the years and their loss never gets any easier.

Sounds like he went quickly and fairly painlessly.

I think having your daughter say goodbye is a nice option.

What a sad day for you.

To have him put to sleep. Amazing how fast he went. He was lethargic yesterday and this morning. Then BAM, he's gone!

7. How sad!
I think it's wonderful to give your daughter options in letting go of him. That meant alot to me, when my beloved guinea pig died. My Dad built her a tiny cherry box and planted a little tree over the spot where they buried her.

19. aww, sweet Buster. I'm so sorry.
It is amazing how quickly they can go - we had a cat when I was a teenager (he'd been with us since I was 5) who was fine one day, a little slow the next, and when we all got back from school/work (were going to take him to the vet the next day) he had died in my room. Sweet guy (his name was Lansberger - after the Lakers player). The vet said he had a fast-growing tumor that burst through his stomach lining...

Anyway, my condolences. I hope your daughter takes it OK.

I still feel the presence of my precious "Emily" who had to be put to sleep at age nine from kidney stones. She was so incredibly special and in touch with something out of this world, so I know she's somewhere and not lost to me forever. I think our animals are closer to "God" than a lot of people.

43. He was quite smart
About 11 years ago we got two male cats who were brothers. After less than a year one died mysteriously. The other one was walking around the house moaning so we knew we needed to get a pal for rhim. The vet just happened to have a little cat who was the runt of the litter. That's how Buster came to us. They were both indoor cats until about a year ago. Buster loved going outside and exploring--but he never went more that a couple of houses away. We had a neighbor who/'s a retched human being. She moved out over a year ago and the house has been for sale ever since. Buster used to love going right to the middle of her lawn and take a dump! I loved it.

44. My dad's cat died about a month ago, it was very sad.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

My parents, a few years ago, got two black kittens. One Male, one Female.

The Male is very good-natured, is loyal to both of them, and is almost like a dog. He fetches, runs, and even pants when he gets tired.

The Female is more proper. She watches, and is always keeping an eye on everyone. She especially took a shine to my Dad, and would usually be wherever he was and sit with him. She seemed to prefer males anyway.

One day she started getting sick. They didn't know what was wrong with her, vet couldn't find anything either. She just got tired and run down all the time. Finally, she was just laying and barely moving at all.

Mom called me one day, said that Naobi (the female) had died. My heart just sank.

And, what's worse, she said that Dad went downstairs to check on her, as he had been doing every hour or so, and didn't come back upstairs. She went down to see if everything was ok, after about 15 minutes. She asked about Naobi, he told her that she had died. Apparently she was lying under my old bed in my room downstairs, and had just crawled out to move, maybe to get food or a drink or maybe just to go somewhere else, and dad found her lying on the floor of my room, near the bed.

I admit, I cried when I heard this. My girlfriend was with me when my mom called (I was at a HyVee grocery store) and we both got pretty upset about it.

I made sure to call my dad afterward, to see how he was doing. He seemed fine, but I could tell that he was a bit shaken and upset about the situation.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Some people may say "It's just a pet", but those people really don't know what its like to have an animal.

53. So sorry, hon.

I hope you will find peace in the knowledge that you provided a lifetime of comfort and love to your sweet Buster.

Ten years ago: Me, Sam & Buddy

I lost my sweetheart kitty Sam at age 13 last spring after a few weeks where she was clearly ill. Every test in the book couldn't diagnose the problem. It turned out to be a tumor that blocked her intestines. I miss her and it still hurts. What's worse, I lost my dear doggie friend and her best friend Buddy a week later, also at age 13 (I got them at about the same time as babies, they grew up together. They were inseparable.). His passing was totally unexpected. I thought Buddy was just depressed because Sam died, and I took him into the vet. The vet said his bloodwork came back not good, and he needed an operation quickly. I rushed him down to the emergency vet. He made it through surgery, but died a few hours later of a surgery-related infection. I was in shock. I don't have any human kids, and they were like kids to me. I had them cremated together. I am still grieving.

So... if you need someone to talk to outside of the thread, I'm here. Might do us both some good. Oh geez, here come the tears. I gotta go.

Peace.

this is bifs daughter. when my dad told me the news i was devestated. not only did i love my cat but i was the only one he found a place to cuddle or a leg to rub against. when i found out what happened i felt like there was a big empty space in me; just like the empty space in the corner of the dining room where he used to sleep or the green couch, or the bush in the front yard where he used to glare at everything going by, and most of all, the empty space in my lap and in my arms. he wasn't pretty, he wasn't skinny, and his fur wasn't soft, but we all loved him and we are glad he is resting peacefully by the pond where he can sit by the fish and the birds and the squirrels all day long.

74. The loss of a pet is so heartbreaking.
I'm sorry for you and especially for your daughter. Just try to remember all of the good times you shared.

75. Spice died 2 months ago and we....
buried him with a new tree planted above his grave. Every time I go out back I can remember all the great times we had and say hello.
