1. Hey Heidi,
How are you? Doing well here. Listening to music, and drinking a beer. Life is good.

We are a little over six months now with the pregnancy thing. He is obviously going to be a kicker, soccer or football. It is the most bizarre thing to watch my wife's stomach move around with his powerful kicks and punches.

6. Hey AZ.....
tell me about your UU experiences. Keep in mind, my wife and I live in rural South Carolina. But yet, there is a UU church less than five miles down the street. We have thought about going.

29. I am suprised more dems aren't UUs
I often find that UU congregations are a church for liberal/dems. Don't go to a UU church expecting dogma or doctrine. If you like questions though.... you will get those aplenty.

Each UU church has a different flavor. Some more spiritual, some more humanist based. But you should find a collection of individuals at any of them at the very least willing to welcome you no matter your beliefs.

11. Well here is the speech I am going to give (criticism accepted)
Weaving with rainbows.

We are tolerant. We disapprove of pressing our beliefs on others. But in these times there are those who do not share our distaste of evangelyzing. And thus their numbers grow while our numbers shrink. But there is merrit in growing our numbers. We have value in our church and what we value we believe others may come to value. So how do you promote something without evangelyzing it?

You represent it. You let your light shine forth. You speak up for the values you draw from your journey with your fellow members.

You talk about it. Reticence of evangelyzing doesn't mean you can't share what a joy your weekly gathering is.

I'm a UU. Actually I'm an atheist, humanist, taoist, liberal democrat, UU. Like most atheists when I discovered the UU church I was leary about anything having to do with a church or religion. But I found not only a family here but one that would embrace and encourage my own particular journey.

Isaac Newton studied the properties of light. He found that when he passed normal light throug a prism it produced a sepctrum of colors exactly like a rainbow. This caused dismay to many. Keats famously claimed Newton had destroyed the beauty and poetry of the rainbow by unweaving it. But this wasn't true. The rainbow is still there in all its beauty. We even discovered new beauty by way of understanding it better.

Just because I do not believe in gods does not mean I do not see or understand the beauty others may find in such a belief. Though I may unweave the rainbow I still appreciate what it means to others. My journey is one of searching for truth and beauty. And while I may have a different understanding of anothers beliefs I relish the ideas and insite that come from their beliefs and in turn apply them to my own understanding of the universe.

I share my insites with others because they are special to me. I believe they have value. I believe that others may benefit from my views. But it is important to remember that they do not have to accept my truths as theirs. I can offer them my treasures but I cannot expect them to see them as the jewels they are to me.

Its not a competition. In the end it doesn't matter who is right or wrong. What matters is that we can share in the beuty of rainbows and hopefully find new things of beauty on our journey through this amazing world we share.

I am a Unitarian Universalist. I want others to know about my joy of being a Unitarian Universalist. Because a joy shared is a joyed doubled. The more you give away the more you have.

Just finished burning the CD with the music for the service
The recorded music anyways.

Playing Ani Defranco's Face Up and Sing Out (the name for our service) and another you probably never heard. I am a Pioneer from the anime Tenchi Muyo. Lyrics below.

Did you know that I am a pioneer
I'm out on a secret mission
I travel the galaxy and far beyond

Can't you see that I am I pioneer
Unlocking the greatest mysteries
My key is a fearless heart
So pure and strong
People laugh when you are a pioneer
Not walking the straight and narrow
They tell you the things are
They swear you're wrong

You can't be a hero
Hiding underneath your bed
Got to live the life
You create inside your head
So I opened the window
Caught the wind one night
Now I sail with the birds in their flight

If you're tired of everything
Come hitch a ride with me
You'll cry out in joy
When you realize you're free
It's a trip like no other
For your heart and mind
Leaving all but the future for behind

Some will say you're safer here
Never mind them - be a pioneer!

Can't you see that you are a pioneer
Not one of the endless talkers
Who tell you the same old rules you're heard before
I can tell that you are a pioneer
You want to be facing danger
Not happy to hide your big dreams anymore
You are a pioneer, the same as me

< Guitar Solo >

You can't be a hero
Hiding underneath your bed
So we'll live the life
We've created in our heads
We'll wake up every morning
In a whole new place
On a road reaching out into space

Some will say we're safer here
Never mind them - we are pioneers

Hand in hand we'll journey as pioneers
Unlocking the greatest mysteries
Don't listen to anyone
Who says we're wrong
They can't stop you when you're a pioneer
For truth is your greatest weapon
Out there in the cosmos
Where we both belong
A place for pioneers
Like you and me

Through the ages we well be pioneers
We'll go out on secret missions
We'll travel the galaxy and far beyond
It's our destiny to be pioneers
We'll always be moving forward
Our courage is what we will be counting on
We will be pioneers forevermore

78. Yeah, I lived in Ft. Worth for a year
Had a head wave over two weeks long where the temp was about 115 degrees during the day, and a "cool" 98 degrees at night! Yikes!!!! I had a car with no AC, but in a way, it was good because on my commute home from work, I would always seen "dead" cars on the side of the road, overheated from running the AC on high! :hi:

81. You should have seen I-10 by my house when Huricane Rita was coming
dead cars everywhere. We had a heat index of 115 during that time.
If the hurricane had come to Houston with rain, I-10 might have flooded again.

103. Houston was very strange during that time. My neighborhood was
about half empty, the stores were empty, gas was in short supply.

The part of I-10 I am talking about is built below ground, just think about all those cars under water.

I walked around the neighborhood that Friday afternoon, it was like a ghost town.

I wish hurricane season would be over.

124. We got off easy in Houston, I really feel for those that have been hit
with a hurricane.

We had a hurricane hit Houston and Galveston in 1983 in August, trees were down everywhere. That still wasn't as bad as these two last big hurricanes.

Flooding is a big problem here, and we don't need a hurricane or tropical storm for that. Houston is a swamp that is being over built.

131. On a baby????
That blows big time! Though I would expect that from a Springfield cop, not so much a Eugene cop. I was "busted" years ago for "minor in possession" and "criminal drug promotion." I was under 21 and some people I had gone to school with and I had gotten together. There was some alcohol there, but I had not had any. We were laughing like teenagers do, and the woman in the apartment above us called the cops. They came in, saw the beer bottles, and then did an illegal search and seizure. They found a pipe with hash residue in it hidden in the bottom drawer of a dresser UNDERNEATH some clothing, and they cited us. "Criminal drug promotion"! That makes it sound like I was standing outside a grade school pushing drugs on 10 year olds! And I didn't even know that stuff was there! Well, I told my parents (not fun!) and they got me an attorney. The attorney made a call to the Springfield Police Department, threatened them about the illegal search and seizure, and all charges were dropped for all of us! Such a life of crime I have lead!

Have never had piano lessons. I loved piano, and my mom, who had lessons, gave me theory study and practice books, and I practiced on my own...have been at it now for over 45 years...
I love making music! La-la-La! lol

PS I took that pic about 6 years ago....the desert has some wonderful hidden treasures!

145. Hey there!
Well, an eventful day comes to a close. This looks like a good place to spend some time with some friends.

154. It was beset with trials and tribulations
But we pulled it together. We had some sort of printer curse pursuing us. We hit 6 different printers and they all were out of toner. The one we finally found working ran out as we were reprinting the order of service due to a typo.

It went over real well and we had more in attendance than we figured. Much conversation was had afterwards across the street at the Cass Cafe.

The coup though is brewing. The interim minister was a bit spacey. Not sure if it's because the power struggle has begun or for other reasons.

147. Hello Heidi , wide awake. Today is going to be a long day.
A pox on who thought it was a good idea to change everyones hours for two weeks.

We are having our first cold front now, winds are gusting up to 22 mph. I will get to wear one of my new long sleeve teeshirts in the morning.

I will miss posting all week, I will be able to post on the weekend.

152. I'm always glad when you're here, texanwitch.
Why did they change everyone's schedules around? Some sort of cost-cutting measure, or what?

Ooooooo, but windy, fall evenings sound nice (and Halloween-ish). *Envy.*

157. I don't know who thought up this bright idea. No body is happy about it.
Everyone is going to sleepy, people with kids are real unhappy.

The weather was hot this afternoon about 80, and then the front came and wow, instant temp. drop.

All my windchimes are busy now, I have a lot of them.

The band has the night off, but I thought I'd drop in to say hello! Did you see that I took a gander at your newest painting? It is so beautiful. I hope you are pleased with it!

159. Hi, SeattleGirl!
Thank you for your kind words about the painting. I'm sort of happy with it, though I think the top turning edge of the bamboo should be lighter, because the bamboo was actually lighted from both the front and behind. It's OK, though. I'm in a learning phase.

I wonder what mischief the band will be up to tonight, on their night off?

:loveya: , too, gf.

That way I have plausible deniability!!

I really do love your painting, and if I could afford it, I'd buy it from you after your show. There is just something about it that really speaks to me!

probably is a good policy, for your own peace of mind, SG!

Wait'll I get the turning edges issue resolved before you consider buying a bamboo painting from me. ;)

164. Heidi, you are such an artiste!
My husband is very talented, and his own worst critic. Nothing wrong with wanting your work to be the best it can be, but also nothing wrong with accepting that someone might see a piece of work as a real thing of beauty! You are VERY talented!

167. He is a graphic artist, and
uses his talent in other ways, like wedding cakes (we do them together -- I do live flower arrangements for the cakes). Also, he does pencil, charcol, colored pencil, and pastel drawings. My very favorite is one he did as an assignment in art school. The assignment was "A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words." What he did, with colored pencils, was Van Gogh's "Starry Night", writing the words of "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)" to do the picture. From across the room, you cannot tell that's what he did, but as you walk closer to the piece, you can see it. Another piece he did, with the computer, is hanging over my kitchen table. It is a piece called "Alphabet Soup", and it's a cookbook suspended over a copper pot, with a knife scraping the letters of recipe's off into the broth.

173. I need to do more research into the edibles.
That would be a good project, especially for vegetarian or vegan weddings! My husband has a couple of recipes for cakes that would be acceptable for vegans.
