Boo on margarine.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 08:44 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Just saw a "I can't believe it's not butter" ad on TV, and it made me seriously have the need to do a "BOO ON MARGARINE!" shout out!

BOOOOOOOOOOOO margarine! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Only butter for me. No margarine. Ick!

1. They have the worst commercials!!
Try Brummel and Brown...made with yogurt, no transfats, and tastes really, really good even tho it's now owned by the same people who put out those unbelievably stupid commercials.

4. Butter is probably...
.. more healthful than the horrible hydrogenated oils in margarine.

And butter actually tastes good!

6. I think so - I'm sure that natural butter is far, far, far more healthy
than chemicalized shit.

Except, of coruse, to those people who have a medical condition that makes butter horrendously dangerous to them.

10. I remember when I was a kid, and yellow margarine was illegal in WI
People going across the border (I think they had to cross the border) to get the yellow coloring food packets, or just buy yellow margarine.

9. Yeah for olive oil!
I once sat through a dinner where two of the guys at the table started off the meal by getting into a little tiff about whether butter or olive oil was better, and it ended up an hour-plus-long screaming match during which the rest of us quietly tried to drown ourselves in wine.

"Margarine was discovered in 1869 by Hippolyte Mège Mouriès, a French food research chemist, in response to Napoleon III's request for a wholesome butter alternative."

Which is supposed to be better for you, replacing the gunky stuff with some healthful omega oils or something ... it was pretty much not at all like butter. I guess it's good if you need to cut cholesterol down.

22. I'm a heart patient, but I use Land o Lakes
spreadable butter. It's butter mixed with canola oil to make it soft. Tastes great and half the saturated fat of butter. And NO trans-fatty acids.

27. In general, I would agree.
Margarine sucks the farts out of dead cows and shouldn't be used by anyone but a vegan as it's less than healthy.

However, as odious as I find their name and their commercials, "I Can't Believe it's Not Butter" isn't actually margarine in the traditional sense. It's soy bean oil; quite healthy.

For the best of both worlds, flavour and health, I tend to make a 50/50 blend of clarified butter and pure canola oil. But I don't use butter very often as I prefer olive oil in most dishes.

Fish paste.

I loathe margarine. All I've ever used is butter, olive oil and peanut oil. The best thing about butter is, when frying, the milk solids brown so nicely. Nothing can beat it.
