A lesbian Fashion Model
Many or some of you may know that this season on America's Next Top Model their is a lesbian competing. So what do you think about a lesbian fashion model? Does anyone think she can win the competition?

3. Nor do I.
Modeling is modeling. I don't see where sexual preference enters into it.

6. Not About Relevance
I did not start the post due to relevance. I just started the post so people could talk about the issue. I am not sure if there has ever been an openly gay model. I do not care if a model is gay or not; however, there is an openly gay person competing to be a model. I did not think it would be a bad thing to talk about the issue.

7. There have been a few.
Gia Carangi was a model in the seventies who was a known bisexual(she is the first that comes to mind).

16. That's who I was thinking of... Her name was on the tip of my tongue.
Hardly a role-model, though.

9. I don't pay much attentions to models
I wouldn't know if any of them were gay or not but if I see an attractive one, then I see an attractive one.
So I guess my answer would be I don't really think of it as being an issue in my personal opinion.

models who came before her. And there are many openly bisexual as well as closeted lesbian and bisexual models who are working or have worked in the industry. The great majority of designers, consultants and stylists in the fashion world are one brand of queer or another as well. Her sexuality isn't an issue as far as the arena of the industry goes.

It's an issue on America's Next Top Model because it's a tv show which is beamed out to the folks in "the flyover states" who, apparently, still consider homosexuality titillating if not taboo if not a transgression. I believe the show had another openly lesbian contestant in the past who was not treated well by the other girls in the running. It's nice to see that this group is more open minded. However, the way the producers have made her sexuality Hot Topic indicates that either they still have an issue with it or they feel a need to pander to the lowest common denominator by creating convoluted melodrama around it by constantly referencing her lesbianism, playing up her gender-identity issues and pinning her against the other model she slept with.

Personally, I doubt she'll win but it doesn't have anything to do her sexuality.

12. Small point: sexuality isn't the same thing as "gender identity."
But the rest of your post is right on!

13. Agreed. I didn't mean to indicate that they were synonymous.

However, it seems as though the producers find her lesbianism more palatable if it can be written off as gender confusion.

14. There was a bi-sexual model last season.......
So now they've graduated to a lesbian! I don't think it matters what a model's sexual preference. As long as she doesn't end up like Kate Moss. That's messed up! All those endorsement deals shot to hell!

15. One of the contestants on last season's ANTM was a lesbian
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 10:32 PM by miss_kitty
And why couldn't a lesbian win? I mean if she were a 5 foot tall lesbian, then she might not have the same chance the other gals do. But then, it wouldn't have anything to do with her sexual preference.
