If you faced a "no-win scenario", what would you do?
I have been put into one.

If I do nothing, it will make me look bad.

If I respond and try to defend myself, I will look like a sleazy worm and the circumstances don't matter.

2. Oooh, I found myself in one
No matter what, it sucked for me.

So I did nothing, and it sucked. Then I did something, and it sucked.

No way out. Just sucks.

Sorry...

3. Hard to answer without more details...

but I usually try to "lose" gracefully.

Only you can decide for you though. How important is it to you to at least try to defend yourself? Do you really care what the people involved think? Is there any way to just distance yourself from the whole situation?

Whatever you do...make sure you do what you need to do to feel right with yourself.

4. They will not care either way because I know what they want to happen.
And if there is a future, I must surely respond?

6. Hmm...that makes it interesting.
If you're feeling hard-headed, you could try to find a solution where even if you lose, they don't get what they want to happen either. Or at least they don't get it easily.

7. Nothing.
My words were taken out of context or ignored and they are using my personality and character flaws against me.

10. Eek...that sounds awful...
It may not be my place but I'm gonna give you advice anyway...that's the kind of people that you don't want to be around and if there's any way for you to just walk away from them I would do so.

I know...a lot of times that is easier said than done.

No matter what you decide to do I hope you know you can always come to the Lounge to kvetch about the situation.

9. I'll make up your scenario as I go along...
We'll say choice one is, "Shoot him." This is not the correct choice.

Choice two will be, "plastic." This is also incorrect.

Choice three, however, is "defer to the interest of the majority of the group and get behind whatever plan of action is decided upon by someone other then yourself. Act hesitant, but go along with it. If it doesn't work out, it's not your fault."

Choice three is correct.

In a lose-lose situation, being dumb is your best bet.

17. The real key is to keep records...
before you hit the no win scenario. Notes of conversations/phone calls. Summations of all communications. E-mail is great for that--you always have a written record.

The above info may be off track since i don't know yor situation, but I always operate in CYA mode having gotten caught a couple of times.

And sometimes, if it's a losing situation, it doesn't matter what anyone will think of you, so take the high road (for yourself) and just keep quiet.

19. Thats when you look for new ways of thinking of things
Don't stop exploring just because it seems there are only two ways through a situation. Look for a better way.

That's what I would do.

If that won't work then, like a poster posted above, feign ignorance.

21. Prove them wrong by your actions; don't worry about the rest.
All you can do is ensure that your actions are ethical and respectful. If you're able to just come out and say "I know we have a problem here and that whatever I say will be misconstrued, so I'm going to demonstrate the kind of person that I am through my action and forget about the gossip mill," then it might be an option.

Other than that, actions speak louder than words.

22. What i do is simple.
I stick to my guns and my beliefs. I choose the one that i see as the best alternative and do not regret my decision.

In the end it does not matter one whit what others think of you as long as you can live with yourself.

If you weren't involved in that aspect, you're exempt. You don't have to play.
