Anyone here remember color-coded reading comprehension tests in school?
They were administered in elementary school. I forget what they were called exactly. They were large cards with stories and questions. Each section of cards were color-coded, ranked in order of level. Of course, everyone knew who was smarter than everyone else according to the color cards they were working on.

'SRT', maybe?

1. Yep...I remember those!
The kids here have AR (Accelerated Reader) now. They read whatever book they want, and if it's on the list, they take the test on the computer. Last year, my son had the most points for his grade level all year, then was surpassed in the last two weeks of school.

4. Yes, and there was a story about the 'first day of the rest of my life'
and it was creepy but I really liked it. I don't remember what it was about. Third grade.

7. Those cards made me feel tracked, with no upward mobility
I could never figure out how some kids started with say, 'blue', while others had to start all the way on the bottom with, I think, 'yellow'.

8. Yep. I loved those things.
But I was a pretty big nerd in grade school.

Go figure.

10. SRA's
Loved 'em, plowed through 'em in no time and was eager for more. I've always loved reading - we were lucky at my elementary school. Attached to the school was a branch of the town's public library which we used as our school library. It was years before I realized that not all schools have a fully stocked library.
