6. Siebenschläfer?
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 01:06 AM by Heidi
I think they're cute, neweurope, and even cuter when my cat isn't dragging one into the house. :scared:

7. Poor Siebenschläfer - but these here are "Haselmäuse".
Related to the Siebenschläfer but much, much smaller. VERY tiny. When I was a child we had Siebenschläfer regularly trying to find a hibernation place in our house. One day my mother went to put sheets on the guest bed and found three Siebenschläfer curled up under the cover, fast asleep :)

8. Thank you for explaining the distinction!
The siebenshläfen (is that the right form for plural in hoch-Deutch?) brings me are much, much bigger, but I thought perhaps the photo above was of a baby Siebenschläfer. (The first time I saw one here, I thought it was a little squirrel. :eyes: )

9. Yes, with the bushy tail they look a little like squirrels.
It distinguishes the dormice from mice - a totally different kind of animal.

In this case "Siebenschläfer" is both the singular and the plural form :)
