I can't sleep and I am totally stressed out.
I am stressed and depressed about my job. I am the only IT person at a site with 170 people (which has never had an IT person) so everything is a mess. The business manager of the site is the regional director and he thinks I should be able to manage his site and about 7 others (6 of which are in other states) by myself, including all helpdesk support. Its ridiculous.

My own IT department is also in another state and they totally get that I can't do all this, but it takes a while to hire more people. But in the meantime I have to deal with an asshole manager with a clear cut case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, who blames me for everything. I am so stressed out I am about to start looking for another job.

2. Jeez, I'm sorry.
Really I am. I had a job where I got so stressed out my husband told me I should quit -- and hubby never tells me what to do about my job. But he was very concerned because I was so stressed out all I could do was cry.

This is a tough job market, but if you can find something else, please do, for your own health and well being. If you can't, try to see if you can get someone else to help you in IT.

Sending very good vibes your way, and hope this works out for you.

3. thank you so much
I have a supportive manager who keeps saying he will fix this situation, but the business director doesn't respond to anyone... so I am always whining to my manager. I am the only female in the department, and the only one who has been put in a situation like this.

The people who care about me all say get out. I just hope I can last till I find something else.

4. Wouldn't it be nice
if we could just leave jobs that are bad for us? But the reality is, most of us can't. So I'm glad you have an understanding manager. And remember, you have lots of support here.

6. Then I wish you sweet dreams
Please do take care of yourself. Try some humor after work -- comedy videos or tapes or something. Laughing is sometimes a great way to release stress.

7. I had this problem with my last job.
To much work to get done well. Not enough people. Shitty company. Horrid stress and no sleep. Start looking, now. I didn't and it got to a point where I had to quit, anyway. I couldn't take it anymore. I haven't found a job yet, I wish I'd been looking sooner. Good luck and I'm sending you calming thoughts. I hope things get better soon, it's a horrible situation to be in.

10. Good luck with your job situation
Definitely look for another job. Having options can in itself relieve stress. If the stress and resulting health problems get worse, you might have to make some tough decsions about whether you should outright quit your job without getting another job or take a job that pays significantly less if you cannot find an equivalent or better paying one. Obviously if other issues, especially money, is also a stressor in your life, the decision might not be so easy.

12. That's not a good situation at all
And it's a vicious cycle because the more stressed you are, the less likely you are to sleep and the less sleep you get, the less effective you'll be at an already overwhelming job.

Try taking a long, hot bath before settling down and trying to sleep. I find that often helps. And it sure sounds like you might want to keep your eyes open for another position - people can only take that level of stress so long.

I'm sorry.
