Bacharach teams up with Dre for protest album

Burt Bacharach has teamed up with rapper Dr Dre for a new album of passionate protest songs.

Bacharach, 77, known for classic pop songs like Alfie and Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head, says several tracks are critical of President Bush.

Dr Dre provides drum loops on three of the tracks on the album, At This Time, while other contributors include Elvis Costello and Rufus Wainwright.

<SNIP>

Bacharach said: "People ask why a man who has been known for writing love songs all of his life is suddenly rocking the boat.

<SNIP>

A friend of Bacharach said: "Burt's pissed at the administration, concerned about the world he is leaving to his children, and you can feel it."

37. These two true rennaisance men from different eras will knock something
out that will be monumental. They are brilliant, serious arrrangers/producers. They have given us who sublime timeless music. Raelly, Gfunk is not such a stretch from the dreamy pop song Burt gave us. This will introduce so many to Burt's music and visa versa. I can only imagine who will be "guesting" on this album.

5. Great for Burt... just don't let him sing it, okay?
He really can't sing any more (if he ever could).
But I do love a lot of his work.
Classic.

15. From the Cheney Gang
What the world needs now
Is oil, sweet oil.

It's the only thing
That there's just too little of.
What the world needs now
Is oil sweet oil.
No not just for me
But for Unocal.

Lord, we don't need a pristine wilderness.
What's a few trees, some reindeer... and eskimos?
We need buckets and barrels enough to last
Oh, listen, folks, if you wanna know.

What the world needs now
Is oil sweet oil.
It's the only thing
That there's just too little of.
What the world needs now
Is oil sweet oil.
No not just for me
But for Unocal.

Lord, we don't need France and Germany
We've got Baghdad and Kabul Afghanistan
We need buckets and barrels enough to last
Oh, listen, folks, our next stop is Iran!

What the world needs now
Is oil sweet oil.
It's the only thing
That there's just too little of.
What the world needs now
Is oil sweet oil.
No not just for me
But for Unocal.

On that pbs 60's music doc the other night... he totally HATED admitting that Aretha's version of SAY A LITTLE PRAYER was a better arrangement than his and Warwick's but he painfully said it. It was so funny.

a FAR better "musician" to team up with.

This reminds me of those other awful "Let's pair together two unlikely performers, a good one and a shitty one, and see what happens" novelty albums that they used to do more often back in the day.

Come on, Burt - you can have the pick of the litter, and you choose Dre?

What's next, a Pavarotti/Brittney album?

Elvis Costello and a pile of rusting scrap iron?

Lou Reed and a bacteria-laden unwashed dish rag?

Neil Young and that guy on the bus who yells about the FBI all day and picks his ass with a soldering iron?
