Yay! Goin' to The Game Saturday; UM vs. MSU. Go Green!
Just got a call from a buddy with an extra ticket. Supposed to be 70 degrees and sunny. This is going to be a good one. Spartans favored! That's virtually unprecedented. And makes me very nervous. But, Drew Stanton is special. He stays healthy through the game, and we have a shot, but UM is going to come at us with everything they have got. No taking us lightly this year. Don't miss this one. Spartans prevail, 35-31. Too close for comfort.

2. MooU? Uh oh.
Lack of respect implied in that aspersion. Gimme a score.

why is all the bullshit in Ann Arbor?"

As someone who grew up in Ann Arbor, and went to school for 4 years at MSU, I can speak personally about the bullshit in Ann Arbor.

10. You will be worshipped, my dear, for your wisdom.
The Oracle at Delphi had nothing on you. The Vestial Virgins could have used your sage advice (well, your eligibility is none of my business). Anyway, Go Green!

13. No disrespect,
just a little good-natured banter.

I grew up in Lansing, got used to hearing it called Cow College or MooU. Plus, I work at U-M.....

MSU, 28-21.

15. No offense taken.
Hell, I call it that at times, too. Given how long ago I graduated from there, I can be classified as long suffering. They'll never beat the Lions, though - 48 years with one playoff win in that time. Wow.

5. We all have our crosses to bear.
Q: What's the difference between a University of Michigan fan and a carp?
A: One is a bottom-feeding, scum sucker, and the other is a fish.

8. Two UM fans are walking down the street. . .
Two University of Michigan fans were walking down the street when they came upon a dog lying on the sidewalk licking and cleaning his groin like dogs do. The first University of Michigan fan says to the second, "Boy, I wish I could do that." The second University of Michigan fan replies, "Yeah, me too. But I wouldn't try it." The first University of Michigan fan asks, "Why not?" The second University of Michigan fan replies, "Because I'm afraid the dog might bite me."

7. No dog in this fight
Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 07:02 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
I went to Central Michigan and, finally, could care less who wins.
Polly (my SO) is a State fan and Mike B (my best friend) is a HUGE Michigan fan.
I'll wear my Chippewa sweatshirt and tell both of them to Shut the Fuck Up so's I can watch the game. That said, I think MSU is going to win this year and win easily. Michigan State has the ability to put points up on the board by the buttload and Michigan doesn't have the capacity to do anything about it.
Final: MSU 31 Michigan 17. And CMU loses a tough one to Akron.

Still can't forget the Chippewas beating our butts in consecutive years, though - 1992 and 93? Sounds about right.:eyes:

Central Michigan 20 Michigan State 3 ('91)
Central Michigan 24 Michigan State 20 ('92)
John
Both games were season openers and both games were at East Lansing. They're still counted as the biggest victories in CMU history (how DID MSU let us get them a second year running?).

25. Ugh. Yep, you are right. Hated to go to Mt. Pleasant back then.
I used to go then to Mt. Pleasant every month for meetings back then; my Spartans window decal drew great ridicule - and I probably deserved it. I remember when the Chippewas were a MAC power, but not since Deromedi stepped down. Go Chips - actually, that meant a lot more to your school than another beating of a MAC school would have meant to State. I was at the first game. Glad to have missed the second.

I went to USC, so excuse me for not getting excited about your game. But for old times sake, I hope the Wolverines get their asses kicked....

14. No dog in your fight, either.
Nobody will beat USC this year, I know, but I think next to the Trojans, the Spartans have the best offense in the country. If we had a good defense, we might see you in the Rose Bowl. But as it is, that won't happen. Not sure who you will face. And I'm not excited about your team vs. ASU, either. So there (actually, I am such a college football nut, I watch them all).

Er, I guess that isn't much of an insult. But, what was that final when Minnesota played MSU last year? 51-17 comes to mind. See you in that stupid Dome (what kind of place is that to play college football?).

21. I agree the dome is a disaster
By the way, I am a Badger fan...

The thing about the dome is...the Metropolitan Sports Commission sold everyone a bill of goods...The Vikings get all the concession money from ANY event held there...The Metropolitan Sports Commission is a subset of the Metropolitan Council, which is a board APPOINTED by (I believe) the governor. Their terms have no limits, meaning that once appointed, until one steps down, they are in, no matter who is in office. Can you say taxation without representation.

The Met Council is responsible for making decisions about how the metro Twin Cities area sprawls. They make decisions about what infrastructure to build and where, but none of the citizens have any input.

23. My husband graduated from MSU in 1976 and he never went
to a football or basketball game

just not a sports fan, although I did indoctrinate him into the joys of Olympic Ice Skating and other Olympic sports after we married.

I, however am strictly a basketball fan being from the Mother Church of all things Basketball: the state of Kentucky, and a graduate of the college holding the most Division II titles.

I include several teams in my definition of Mother Church of all Things Basketball:
Kentucky Wesleyan (DIV II...8 National Championships, lost count of the final 4 games and Regional Championships..my old school)
University of Kentucky
University of Louisville
and in years past:
Western Kentucky University
Northern Kentucky State University (DIV II)

and the best High School Tournament..Kentucky's schools all compete in the same division for basketball..
