would it be worth seeing unattractive people naked
just to be able to see attractive people naked?

That is, if there were a ban on clothing, would it be worth it?

I would have to say no. I'm more in favor of maybe a national day of nudity, but not a complete ban. Don't know why it came up.

2. Sure....
You can always avert your eyes if there was someone you didn't want to see. However, men walking around in a constant state of arousal would be quite scary. You'd really need to watch who you bump into.

5. Noooooooooo!!!
The pain of seeing people who should only be naked in private (myself included) is in no way mitigated by the ability to view those who look good naked.

Sheesh, if I want nudity there's DVD and magazines...

I'm not prone to take my shirt off in public, so I'm with ya. But I figure everyone will be looking at the attractive people instead of me, so theres some solace there.

9. Learned tolerance
Awareness of the actual average appearance of a person would soon curb the marketting arm of the media's attempt to portray the standard of beauty as being some twig with strategically placed bumps. We are being forced to accept an unattainable standard of appearance. Some exposure to reality would do the world good.

14. Maybe that aint such a good ideal
Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 12:01 PM by LeviathanCrumbling
Almost all of the naked people I see go through a pretty rigorous screening process, wither by the people that cast them in the movies, or by myself before I take off their clothes. I think that the screening process is a good thing.

Then again if you don't want to wear pants I'm not going to stop you.

16. I wentto school in the south of France and expected to
spend the whole time on the nude beaches. It took about two trips for me to realize that there was much more (emphasis on MORE) there that I didn't want to see than that I wanted to see.

31. Been there, done that many times
Most people at nude beaches are guys hoping to catch a glimpse of a beautiful naked woman. Rarely does it happen.

A woman on a nude beach is immediately surrounded by "beach Romeos". They are really obnoxious and tend to drive the women away.

32. I'm coming up witha s trategy here
Surround myself with a posse of 'beach Romeos' who immediately self-dispatch to the vicinity of the appropriate woman, acting as 'beaters' for me in that their naturally obnoxious presence drives her directly toward where I repose in my detached and non-leering new-male-sensitivity.

Could work.

Maybe.

Actually, it's frighteningly close to the CODE hypothesis, but my motives are entirely innocent. Well, basic, at least.

19. How about a nudity license?
You can only go around naked if a panel deems you attractive enough and grants a license. Otherwise no.

21. on the one hand,
the thought repulses me. i don't want my nakedness to be publicly visible; and most people are not that attractive even with most of their unsightly areas covered up. furthermore, i don't necessarily want to see attractive people naked either (unless they're my sweetie!) because they might make me feel inadequate.

that said, i think it might be a good thing for people (like me) to get over their hangups. get over their shame. when i'm with my sweetie (who is gorgeous, by the way) and we see some fat person in a skimpy outfit, she will often say, "That person should cover up." while i am more likely to think, "Good for that person, it must take a lot of courage to
be ugly and yet self-accepting."

i think society needs to be more accepting of imperfect bodies.

all in all, though, i think practicality trumps the other considerations. clothing is a good idea not only for modesty, but for warmth, for protection from ultraviolet rays, and for protection against injuries in case of accident. oh, and protection against insects.

25. I'm not a prude and I have Lounge posts to prove it.
But I think even people who meet all the current aethestical criteria for 'hot & sexy' are better savoured with a little phantasy and some mystery.

Oh I know, if you interviewed 100 guys at least half of them would say they had no problem with a hot prospect just flinging themself across the room nekkid at him. But I think that almost all of the remaining half would say they like to see a hottie just uncovered enough to tittilate and inspire some phantasies.

This mythical ban on clothing would take a lot of the fun out of it, in my opinion.

I mean, I think most women within a certain age range are at least a little sexy - but I would never go so far as to say "All"

33. Being naked is liberating
My college alma mater has a tradition called senior streak where the seniors, towards the end of the year, walk across campus naked. All sorts of people do this, both those considered attractive and unattractive. I participated in this event and had watched it the other years. It did not really seem sexual to me. It was more about comraderie and being yourself. At first, I was a little frightened when I walked across campus naked and saw others watching. Then I felt rather liberated and was no longer scared. It helped that a large group of us was nude. I would not do nude dancing or anything else that singled me out for attention this way. It would be cool if there was a national nudity day. Being nude is a wonderful experience. I do not considered seeing a nude less attractive person as disgusting, just like I do not consider seeing less attractive furniture or vechicles as disgusting.
