lice! my wife's effing co-worker's kid has lice, she came to work w/ lice
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 01:40 AM by expatriot
didn't tell anyone, my wife has long hair... her co-worker finally tells her her kid has lice and at the end of the same day (yesterday) tells her (my wife) that she (the co-worker) has lice. Now my wife has what I think is lice and now I probably have it too!

You know, we like to think we practice good personal hygiene (i.e. we shower before and after every coupling session) and it really sucks that we are infected with this shit! Damn my wife's coworker's kid!

It's just embarrassing, too!

How do you treat this shit?

on editL Okay, so my initial reaction was the elementary school myth of kooties, etc. I guess I knew better, it's just the last time I had the "fear of lice" in me. thanks for the suggestions. We will follow up.

1. For the most part
it has nothing to do with personal hygiene. You get stuff at the pharmacy to shampoo your hair with. WASH all bedding in very hot water. The child could have picked it up at school. Granted the parent should not have come to work with it.

My sis in law had 5 children and they would get lice at least 3 times a year, one of the cleanest households I've ever seen. It happens, kids get close to each other, try on hats, etc.

good luck :)

2. _Anyone_ can get lice.
My mother was a first-grade teacher, and there always were a few kids in her class each year with lice. As a result, whenever there was an outbreak of lice, she rushed right home and treated us kids with RID. Not once did we ever actually _have_ lice, despite the fact that our mother put us at risk. But we got treated anyway. :eyes:

Calm down. Even if you do get lice, it's easily treatable and nothing to be embarrassed about.

4. Don't count on the RID
apparently a lot of lice are immune to it now or something. Fortunately (for you, it kinds sucked back them) my kid sister had lice a lot and passed them to me a few times as a kid, so I know what to do. Here's what you need: a shower cap, a nit comb, campho-phenique, some really harsh shampoo like nutrogena t gel, and a hairdyer.

Step one: nit comb through hair as thoroughy as you possibly can.

Step two: shampoo with the coal tar shampoo or other harsh shampoo. YOu could do the rid treatment in this step too if you like.

step three: after toweling off and getting as much water as you can out of your hair, coat head in campho-phenique, cover with shower cap and sit an hour or until the smell knocks you unconcious.

step four: shower again, get the nasty stuff our of your hair, thanking the deity of your choice that your head no longer smells like an old folks home.

step five: blow dry on hot until hair is bone dry. Blow dry after every shower for at least two weeks, keep checking for nits and using the nit comb as needed. You may need to repeat the process, but probably not if you nipped the problem in the bud.

6. Lice don't like dirty hair
So it's not a matter of bad personal hygiene.
