So, I'm a little scared.
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 03:30 PM by Akoto
My folks made an offer on a home in upstate New York yesterday, near Oswego. They started low, expecting her to return with a middle-ground, but she took the first offer without an argument. Because I'm only twenty and have a few issues to work out before moving on my own, I'll be going with them.

We've been planning this for a long time, so I really shouldn't be surprised that we're moving, but I really felt it hit me inside when they told me that the lady took the offer. What's more, we're paying cash, so we'll be able to move in pretty darn soon. I've lived in the same city in Florida for my entire life, and I've never even been out of the state. This is scary stuff!

On the bad side, I'll be experiencing snow for the first time. I'll also be living somewhere that's quite a bit smaller, where I know nobody, and have no other family besides my folks (except an aunt/uncle some distance away). Furthermore, we're going to be driving up there from Florida, and it's a 2 1/2 to 3 day trip. I have a bad stomach at times, so I'm really scared of the trip.

On the bright side, it's a clean slate to start life with. My folks will have a lot of money in the bank to clean up their debts and build their retirement fund on. We won't have to worry about hurricanes anymore. Someone involved in the line of work I do (voiceover) has even offered to introduce me to some producers, once we get up there.

I think it's the trip that's scaring me the most. Meh, moving is hard. :scared:

1. I'm sorry for what you are going through. All I can say is that snow is
really a lot of fun and I wish you all the best.

I have heard that snow is fun! We're not too far from the lake, so we're probably going to get quite a heap of it at times. Fortunately, our house will be on a county road, so the city will keep it plowed.

Like I said, I think it's just the trip scaring me. :)

3. Embrace Change
It is the only constant in life.

Every place on earth has unique beauty to offer. Things will be different, to be sure, and not every new experience will be pleasant. But you will get to see and experience much more of the world than if you had stayed in Florida.

I moved my family to New England from Texas about 6 years ago. It was hard on my boys; teenagers at the time. But now that they have settled in, made new friends, and have steady girlfriends. I think they are happy to be up here and the fact that they lived in Texas means that they have much to share with their friends here who've never had a chance to visit the Great and Sovereign Lone Star State.

5. I know you are right.
I think I'll be okay once I get there. :)

On the bright side, we just recently bought a laptop, so I can play games and watch movies while on the drive. Should hopefully take my mind off things a bit.

6. Living in a place that has four distinct seasons
is a good thing--trust me on this. Besides, isn't there a big lake near Oswego? It's probably a beautiful place. Go with it, enjoy the adventure.
