Too "sexy" to teach religion Italy academic told
Too "sexy" to teach religion Italy academic told
Reuters, UK

ROME (Reuters) - Was it her looks or lifestyle that led the Roman Catholic Church to cause a minor media frenzy by firing an Italian religion teacher this year?

Caterina Bonci said Church authorities decided she was just too attractive and dressed too sexy to teach religion after 14 years on the job.

The Church says it sacked the 38-year-old blonde from the central Adriatic city of Fano because she is divorced.

No matter who is right, Bonci has been all over the Italian media demanding to go back to her job teaching religion to children in state schools on behalf of the local diocese.

14. she's ok
But, she appears to have a rather large chest... if she wore a low cut top, it could have young men thinking naughty things about her.

20. Discussion of a person's "looks"
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 11:06 AM by necso
(their visual appearance) seems to offend some people here. (Although widely over cultures, people make (extensive) efforts to appear (more) attractive -- because of selection pressures and natural drives, I suspect, along with cultural imperatives (although these are related to the former).) And looks are certainly not a good metric by which to judge someone. (Nor would I (theoretically) wish to be judged based on looks -- even if old, fat, grungy bums were considered "hot". -- Although, frankly, I don't really give a damn, because the superficial is not the level on which I try to dwell.) Moreover, a societal fixation on looks can hardly be a good thing, since it is shallow, has nothing to do with real merit and might drive people to have too low an "appreciation" of individual worth (and this on the flimsiest of grounds -- how some herd subset (directly or indirectly) "thinks" one looks), or to have too high an "appreciation" of some superficial, self-important, parasitic fool -- or to take drastic measures in order to make their appearance more attractive by (whatever) societal standards.

In any event, the topic is a somewhat delicate one. Certainly, however, I find this person well within my person paramaters of being attractive. And, generally, I find that well-intentioned compliments are often well received (of course, the actual circumstances and timing are paramount).

But I would have to find something beyond looks in a person, if I were to enter any sort of relationship with them. Then again, some consider me to be an overly-serious individual, although I try hard not to be overly judgmental about how other people view intimate relationships (natural drives and all that) -- or the efforts they make to appear attractive -- or how they talk about each others' looks, at least if this isn't malicious in nature, or is targeting some person who has it coming because of an overly inflated ego, unethical acts, treason, etc.

In any event, excuse me if I choose not to elaborate on this person's charms, because my doing so could be easily miscast.

16. My eyes hurt.
No, not the lady... it was when reading "teaching religion to children in state schools."

That, of course, because the EU is a Satanic cabal that persecutes Christians with the help of the UN, Hugo Chavez, Hillary Clinton, and Costco. :puke:

19. She is attractive, but ...
I hardly think the way she's dressed is provocative. Maybe it is where she lives?

You're right though, they're probably referring to her breast size. I'll admit that they're a bit noticable () but certainly not a reason to fire a teacher. She can't help it.

22. The issue is more
likely that she is divorced. The church is making a big push to bring the faithful in line, but this is more obvious, perhaps, in Europe (and especially in Italy) than here.

And you throw in what might strengthen your case. "Temptation" and the "sin of lust" would have a certain resonance among the faithful -- they beat these things into you -- and, in my day, they did so quite literally.

And since your comment could be misinterpreted as saying that her attractions are limited to her chest, let me say that I think that she has a pretty face and nice eyes. And in the first pic, at least, she is animated and even "glowing", which I find particularly attractive (and this speaks to personality, although it does add a certain sparkle to looks).

And I like a woman who isn't afraid to let her roots show (so she dyes her hair). It can even be attractive, in the same way that those unusual hair colors can be.

A lot has to do with how you wear it. And there is no sin in being a person of charm or flair.

Besides, she can't be faulted for her gifts, or for trying to look nice (within reason it's just a little thing, and almost everyone does it -- and the last time that I checked, priests weren't exactly dressing in rags) -- and, as pictured, she's showing little skin.

...

And us boys will be boys -- we're only human.
