It is now time to give praise to that wonderful band: YES
Yes is #3 on my list of all time favorite band and will probably be there for the rest of my existances. Classic progrock music of the 70s and 80s with "The Yes Album" being one of my all time favorite albums.

Starship Trooper I can put in the CD player and set the player on repeat and listen to the song over and over again - it's just that good. Great rock memory of watching them close with their 1988 concert in Hershey with that song and it just amazingly rock

I. Life Seeker
(Anderson)

Sister Bluebird flying high above,
Shine your wings forward to the sun.
Hide the myst'ries of life on your way.
Though you've seen them, please don't say a word.
What you don't know, I have never heard.

Starship Trooper, go sailing on by,
Catch my soul, catch the very night.
Hide the moment from my eager eyes.
Though you've seen them, please don't tell a soul.
What you can't see, can't be very whole.

Speak to me of summer, long winters longer than time can remember,
Setting up of other roads, travel on in old accustomed ways.
I still remember the talks by the water, the proud sons and daughters that,
KNEW the knowledge of the land, spoke to me in sweet accustomed ways.

Mother life, hold firmly on to me.
Catch my knowledge higher than the day.
Lose as much as only you can show.
Though you've seen them, please don't say a word.
What I don't know, I have never shared.

II. Disillusion
(Squire)

Loneliness is a pow'r that we possess to give or take away forever.
All I know can be shown by your acceptance of the fact there shown before you.
Take what I say in a diff'rent way and it's easy to see
that this is all confusion.
As I see a new day in me, I can also show if you and you may follow.

Speak to me of summer, long winters longer than time can remember,
Setting up of other roads, travel on in old accustomed ways.
I still remember the talks by the water, the proud sons and daughters that,
KNEW the knowledge of the land, spoke to me in sweet accustomed ways.

III: Wurm (Instruemtal)

2. Brilliant, brilliant set of musicians
YES is indeed one of those rare bands that one has to thank the gods that the members managed to find each other and form a band.

Pink Floyd and Rush are other ones, that one has to give thanks that they were able to find like-minded people who didn't just want to gyrate with their instruments and get laid, but wanted to actually contribute something significant to the human history of music by making music that will live on for generations and centuries.

YES were fucking incredible.

3. my 18 year old has made me appreciate YES once again
We drove home from Boston last month and listened to their first 3 albums back to back. It was gorgeous. It's cool that he listens to the music from when I was a young'n. Validation of a sorts- means I'm not totally old and out of it. :-)

17. They rocked amazingly hard...
...for the old bastards they must be, when we saw them last year.

I was surprised at all the steel guitar Howe was playing, right from the first song. Great stuff.

7. I own all their stuff on vinyl
At least all the way through '90125'. I've since repurchased most of it on CD, as my turntable gave up the ghost a couple years back.

It's amazing to see them get the credit and respect they deserve after all these years. Back in the late 80s (when I was a huge Yes fan), they were scorned and derided as prog-rock dinosaurs. But now that there's a whole crop of neo-prog bands giving them respect, they're back on the radar.

And BTW I believe the British music mag MOJO did a special ProgRock edition a month or two ago, with a very nice spread on Yes. You may want to track it down. :hi:

8. Yes is one of the three or four musical entities
that give me hope when I put on their music. It's a feeling that's embedded in the grooves. Been following them for thirty years, and still trying to get close to what Steve Howe does on the guitar.

20. A guitarist friend of mine on Howe
"What he does is tough enough; that he ever managed to imagine playing what he plays is the thing I can't understand."

And my friend is a great guitarist.

9. I love Yes.....
.... when I was young I really loved them, then there came a time I was kind of embarrassed by liking them.

I've gotten over that now, considering the utter dreck that is most pop music, they've got nothing to apologize for :)

I love The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, but Relayer is by far my favorite. The anti-war Gates of Delirium couldn't be more relevant today. The only album Moraz played on, I sure wish they hadn't dismissed him.

I saw them twice, but unfortunately the second time I had to leave just as they took the stage. Things weren't going well for me :(

11. Oh and BTW...
... there was a Soundstage show on PBS a few months back, a "35 year Anniversary" concert.

Anderson, Wakeman, Howe and I think White were there. They didn't play the selection I would have like to hear, but it was awesome anyway. I have most of it recorded...

14. Sound Chaser....

As only Jon Anderson could write it :)

Faster moment spent spread tales of change within the sound,
Counting form through rhythm electric freedom
Moves to counter-balance stars expound our conscience
All to know and see the look in your eyes.

Passing time will reach as nature relays to set the scene,
New encounters spark a true fruition,
Guiding lines we touch them, our bodies balance out the waves
As we accelerate our days to the look in your eyes.

From the moment I reached out to hold, I felt a sound,
And what touches our soul slowly moves as touch rebounds.
And to know that tempo will continue
Lost in trance of dances as rhythm takes another turn,
As is my want, I only reach to look in your eyes.

Cha cha cha, cha cha. Cha cha cha, cha cha....

My roommate finally said, "I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I'm getting REALLY sick of that song!"

18. My sis and I are on their new concert DVD
Songs from Tsongas

Jon Anderson makes his way through the audience at the beginning of "Rhythm of Love" and we managed to get our mugs into that sequence.

I think Steve Howe is the best rock guitar player ever.

19. Yeah Baby
One of my all time favorites - especially with Wakeman or Moraz behind the wall of keyboards. Last saw them in Nov. 2002 (Anderson, Howe, Wakeman, Squire and White) and they were freaking awesome. Anderson was singing better than ever, and even after more then thirty years and at least five concerts I still can't figure out how only five musicians - virtuosos though they may be - can make and control such a massive sound with such precision.

Yes, :yourock:

21. I love YES!
I can feel no sense of measure
No illusions as we take
Refuge in young man's pleasure
Breaking down the dreams we make
Real

One down one to go
Another town and one more show
Downtown they're giving away
But she never came back

No phone can take your place
You know what I mean
We have the same intrigue
As a court of kings

Ah leave it
Ah leave it
Two down there you go
McArthur Park in the driving snow
Uptown they're digging it out
Better lay your claim

Get home you're not alone
You just broke out of the danger zone
Be there to show your face
On another dreamy day

Ah leave it
Ah leave it

Goodbye goodbye goodbye bad
Hello hello heaven

Goodbye goodbye goodbye bad
Hello hello heaven
Ah leave it

Ah leave it

I can feel no sense of measure
No illusions as we take
Refuge in young man's pleasure
Breaking down the dreams we make
Real

Ah leave it
Ah leave it

Goodbye goodbye goodbye bad
Hello hello heaven

Goodbye goodbye goodbye bad
Hello hello heaven

One down one to go
Another town and one more show

One down one to go
Another town and one more show

Ah leave it

Ah leave it
Goodbye goodbye goodbye bad

Goodbye goodbye goodbye bad

Leave it

22. 1st prog band I got into . ..
I still think "Roundabout" is one of the best radio singles ever written. I saw them on the 1991 Union tour, all 8 members in the round. STILL one of the best arena shows I've been to, and the best bass sound I've ever heard live.

25. I'm a bit of a Yes fan
Not my fave old Prog Rock outfit, but I still like them quite a bit.

A related note: my ex-GF's mother apparently partied with Yes when they came through her college town back in the day. She says that they were very cool and nice fellows.

33. You guys are so wrong. It's not pretentious at all, it's just different...
You have to really listen before you can say things like that. It's just energetic rock that strives to be interesting - and it's fun. There are more ways to have fun than three chord rock and roll.

Love that band!

I have most of their output on either vinyl or silver beer coaster. I still think 'Awaken' off Going For The One is one of the most amazing pieces of music ever composed by a rock band. The tutti pipe organ near the end kicks ass...just majestic. Pure genius.
