They stole my sunflowers; now I have to become a Republican
Okay, we live in a fairly nice part of town--Silver Lake in Los Angeles--but we aren't in a gated community or anything like that. Near us are some relatively high-density apartment complexes, and there are always many unfortunates pluckily combing through the recycling on trash days.

We can't seem to get things together on our front yard, but planted sunflowers to have some joy and splash of color as we get our acts together. (My spouse and I both work, and our 2 short guys are still pretty young.)

Yesterday morning, I was greeted with the sight of two of our sunflowers having been lopped off.

Must kill.

This is why people become conservatives.

So sad.

What could have continued to be a joy to the whole street is now gone.

No, this doesn't make me a reactionary, but it sort of explains the dynamic. There's hardly anything sweeter than a little girl with a watering can, and the fruits of that were harvested by interlopers.

Waah.

1. I think all of us have had our 'sunflowers' loped off

It doesn't make you republican or reactionary. You nurtured something and then someone came along and without any consideration to you or even a polite courtesy "mind if" asked and gone is what you have nurtured.

People don't understand but tonight I can share with you that I truly do understand!

8. I'll never go to the dark side, but thanks.
They were cute.

The conservative response is to build a wall; the liberal one is to plant many more.

4. Could it be bunnies? Bunnies used to eat the tops of my flowers
all the time, just leaving them decapitated and pathetic looking.
The rest of the stem was unharmed.
It took me forever to figure out (and witness) the bunnies eating only the heads.

7. Unless they're bunnies with thumbs and tools, no
the cut was about three feet off the ground.

11. I'm sorry to hear that, here
This won't make up for your loss, but perhaps it will brighten your day a bit<>

We have a few farmers out my way who grow acres and acres of sunflowers, it makes my day when I go by.
