Indiana state cops find pot plants as big as trees
Indiana state cops find pot plants as big as trees

August 18, 2005

STILLWELL, Ind. -- Indiana State Police found 3,000 to 5,000 cultivated marijuana plants -- many as tall as small trees -- growing in a two-acre plot in rural northern Indiana.

State Police said Wednesday that Patricio Bautista, 49, of Chicago was arrested at the scene and now faces federal drug charges.

The plants were discovered Tuesday near Upper Fish Lake about 15 miles southwest of South Bend during a routine aerial survey. When police went to the area, they saw several people tending the plants. Bautista was arrested, but the others got away.

''We already have the evidence that these suspects were armed, in the marijuana plot with 5,000 plants and potentially $10 million worth of marijuana,'' State Police 1st Sgt. Mike Crabtree told South Bend's WNDU-TV. ''There was a potential for violence.''

He said the plants are about 8 feet tall and about one month from being harvested.

''They're 8-foot Christmas trees, is what they are,'' he said.

State Police called it one of the largest cultivated marijuana busts in the state.

Not a very exact count ... were the good officers planning for some evidence to, uhh ... "disappear" on it's way to the station ??

Silly me, there's no corrupt cops in Indiana !!! :sarcasm:

7. Numbers discrepancy maybe because the cops were overcome
by the resin fumes in the plantation......and 3 to 5 thousand is the best ball park they could come up with....

Ever walked through a field of that stuff for more than 10 mins and not felt.....you know, light headed............

A former neighbor once told me she used to live on a honey producing farm near Kingston, Jamaica ...whose bees foraged mostly on the pollen of local weed fields. Said they were the most laid back lazy bees she'd ever seen in her life....

4. 8-foot plants? Not very good weed.
The key to potency is to keep the plants short, so that most of the plant's energy goes into bud production...ideally you want bushes, not trees...

6. That is a false statement.
Potency is 90% genetic the other 10% are enviromental conditions. I would suggest you educate yourself on the cultivation of marijuana before you spout false information. The key to potency is good genetic lineage, and favorable conditions. The only thing height plays into is stealth.

Take it from a man who has grown thousands of marijuana plants in the past.

Ain't God good to Indiana...

Acres of it grow wild in Northern Indiana because in World War II the federal government paid farmers to grow hemp for the war effort. I've been told -- I certainly wouldn't know first hand -- that if you can find a stray, roadside plant that has matured to bud stage it's not too bad for a freebie.
