4. Roger Moore.

I think it might have something to do with which one you saw first. I've seen a general trend with that. I saw Roger Moore first and I thought he was the best. However, people who have seen Connery first might think he was best.

5. I admit I'm torn.

Sean Connery is such a great actor, and I love just about anything he does. For the best Bond, though, I have to pick Roger Moore.

He could deliver those quips with more humor than anyone, and his British tailoring was impeccable!

He delivered my favorite quip of all time - after fighting "Jaws" in his tuxedo on the cable car. Bond, bruised and rumpled is asked by the babe "Oh, James, is anything broken?". Bond replies - "Only my tailor's heart". Great stuff!

8. Another "saw first" vote for Roger Moore

Believe it or not, though I love Sean Connery in every of his films that I've seen (and I think he got better looking and had more gravitas as he aged), I still have not seen him as James Bond for an entire film...I've only seen parts of his films, except for Never Say Never Again (that one doesn't count, and I wish he DID say "never" to it). I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond..simple as that. The Man With The Golden Gun was my baptism. Sure, he made some silly ones (I didn't like Moonraker) but that was basically Cubby's problem and a sign of the times) but the dude was muy suave and possessed with just the right degree of humor.

Didn't Roger Fleming originally envision Roger Moore as Bond? I seem to recall something to that effect and him thinking that the mighty Sean was just a tad rough around the edges to play James Bond. I must say, though, that I think Pierce Brosnan is well suited to the part, though I absolutely hated the latest installment.

Never saw George Lazenby and have only seen bits of a couple of Tim Dalton's efforts.

His Bond was too much of a loutish thug. The whole notion of being suave was totally thrown by the way-side - thus removing the linch-pin which held it all together.

but overall, Dalton is my favorite (n.b., I didn't say the best). Dalton had a combination of cool and dangerousness that really suited the role.

I could never take Roger Moore seriously in the role - he was too flippant (true, he was written that way) and completely unconvincing in fight scenes. Too campy.

19. I liked Timothy Dalton.

Of my image of what James Bond was really like, Timothy Dalton came closest to it, IMO.

I liked the way he played the character. His Bond seemed genuinely troubled by the "moral ambiguity" of his profession of an assassin. Had an edge and a darkness that the other Bond's just didn't convey.

You put it nicely. Dalton's Bond had, indeed, a dark side to him. It wasn't all "yuk, yuk, yuk" like it was when Roger Moore played Bond. Dalton's Bond was a pretty complex character, actually. At least that was how I saw it.

He looks the part more than any of the others. Sean has that ridiculous accent, and Moore is just too gameshowhosty-looking. BLeah.

He was pretty good in The Spy Who Loved Me; but he treated the whole Bond thing as a wink-wink joke...and it's too bad Lazenby only had one shot, he was not bad in a complicated part in OHMSS...
