92. That WAS bad
I lived in Japan when Pink Lady were at the height of their popularity in Asia. You simply could not escape their image or their music. They were quite popular with foreign men living in Japan, who evidently watched them due to their skimpy costumes.

However, when I heard that they were going to be paired with an American comedian on a TV show...I was dumbfounded.

I had seen Pink Lady interviewed on Jpn TV, and it was obvious that they didn't have a whole lot to say even in Japanese. They were two 21-year-olds from the boonies who had been fostered and hyped by a production company, not original or innovative talents.

They also couldn't speak English.

So I have to give negative props to the "genius" who thought it was a good idea to have them sing in English and appear in skits in English, where they didn't have the faintest idea what they were saying.

It would be like sending Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera to Japan to do sketch comedy in Japanese.

This was a variety series on NBC. Featuring two Japanese women who could barely speak English and a comedian who wasn't very funny.

21. I happened to watch Network with some friends the other day.
One of the great movies from the 70's and still rings true, today.
Including this great quote about where TV shows come from:
"These are those four outlines submitted by Universal for an hour series. You needn't bother to read them; I'll tell them to you. The first one is set at a large Eastern law school, presumably Harvard. The series is irresistibly entitled "The New Lawyers." The running characters are a crusty-but-benign ex-Supreme Court justice, presumably Oliver Wendell Holmes by way of Dr. Zorba; there's a beautiful girl graduate student; and the local district attorney who is brilliant and sometimes cuts corners. The second one is called "The Amazon Squad." The running characters include a crusty-but-benign police lieutenant who's always getting heat from the commissioner; a hard-nosed, hard-drinking detective who thinks women belong in the kitchen; and the brilliant and beautiful young girl cop who's fighting the feminist battle on the force. Up next is another one of those investigative reporter shows. A crusty-but-benign managing editor who's always gett..." (Another character cuts her off.)

VH1 seems to be culling the sewer for new programs these days.

22. Turn On?
I actually remember seeing the first half of this show the only time it aired, in 1969.
Sort of a take-off of "Laugh-In", it was pretty stupid and sexist. All in all pretty awful.
Here's a review I found

Turn-on was a fast paced comedy that featured computerized music and stop action photography. The show was immediately canceled when it was discovered to have double entendres and hidden meanings. Here is an example: A beautiful woman is about to be executed by a firing squad;the squad leader approaches the woman and instead of saying the usual"Do you have a last request?" says, "I know this may seem a little awkward miss, but in this case the firing squad has one last request." It is the shortest running t.v series ever.

52. LOL...agreed.
I had posted the same further down but didn't see yours.

My theory on why it was so horrible:

1. bad writing (obviously). there's a reason Letterman has like 2 dozen writers.
2. completely misunderstanding Chevy's comedy. He is ONLY funny in tight shots. They made the set the most open spaced set ever...it was like Wyoming. He got lost in all that.
3. undue pressure: both the campaign leading up and the pressure from execs during (even one time yelling at him on the phone during a commercial break!) was outrageous.
4. inability to get good guests. (and rightly so) no one wanted to sink on that titanic.
5. filmed bits that WEREN"T even close to funny. And no decent setups for the clips.

but ultimately, it showed that although Chevy can work with material, he CAN"T create material on the spot. Those are two different skillsets entirely.

42. most painful to watch show...
was one that paired "Pauly" (Burt Young) from Rocky, that diminuituve rough-edged middle aged man, as a college roomate to Corey Haim.

It is so bad I can't find any mention of it on the net in order to tell you the name of the show. (note: doing a search on "Corey haim" brings up all these dripping I love Corey sites...not for the weak stomached)

at any rate, the premise was the middle aged Burt Young was going back to school, and bunks with haim. What made it creepy was about 2 episodes in, Burt kept hanging on Haim...and by "hanging" I mean rubbing his hands all over his arms, etc.. Unintentional, I think, but since Haim looked all of 12, it made it look extremely creepy and pedophilic. It made it uncomfortable to watch and the show died quickly.

now, i can't find ANY mention of it at all on the net.

and I cant remember the name of the show.

Especially Mama's Family - I would sit and cringe while watching it because it was so awful, and then turn the channel. I never understood why it lasted. It was painful! And it was funny on the Carol Burnett show, and had great talent, but it was just AWFUL!!

And friends was just standard dumbed down fuckwad TV for idiot shitnobs who want to sit comatose in front of the TV thinking they're watchign something special and smart, but which isn't, so taht they don't actually have to think, which is good, because they couldn't think to begin with and so intelligent programming would be beyond them.

63. There was this one show
though I can't recall its name, I think it was something like "Comedy Tonight" or something similar. It was the 60s, and it came out around the same time as Laugh-in as it was a variety show. It was shown on its premiere night, and suddenly and quickly never shown again. One episode, and ppppffffftttt!

69. Dateline with Jane Pauley
Such drivel. Every time they do a 45-minute segment on "I discovered my neighbor was peeping thru my bathroom window," that's another 45 minutes that could have been spent doing a story on "When Kodak sent my job overseas, I had to start working as a night manager at K-Mart and my kid had to drop out of college and transfer to technical school."

(Please note that I am not in favor of peeping thru neighbors' bathroom windows, by the way, not even the good looking ones.)

75. Surprised no one has said this one yet - 7th Heaven
I mean come on, I even have CHRISTIAN friends who have told me that show makes them want to puke. If that's any indication, then this is by far the worst show ever made.

Though it was aired 22 years ago -- maybe I'd like it now. Maybe it was just ahead of its time.

Maybe not.
