3. You know, his ban was a lifetime ban. He's been dead over 50 years.
However, the guy who REALLy, REALLY got the shaft was Buck Weaver. He barely played. He just got banned for knowing about the plot and not reporting it.

Otherwise effective control of the game cannot happen

8. There's a minimum career length of 10 years that can be waived
As far as I know Addie Joss is the only inductee with less than 10 years played (except, of course, for the Negro Leaguers).

9. Why, are they letting musicians into the baseball hall of fame now?
If so, then, sure, yeah, I suppose Joe Jackson deserves a spot.

Why not?

10. No.
He threw the biggest series in baseball and took money for doing it. That is something that would incite rage amongst baseball fans whether it happened now or then. And he did it as a player. His lifetime ban is justified.

I know that I argue teh Pete Rose SHOULD be in the hall of fame. To many that is hypocritical, but I split hairs on two thing.

1. Gambling on baseball is not as bad as throwing the world series and taking money for doing it, for the sake of gambling.

2. Pete Rose was a manager when he gambled. His transgressions occurred AFTER he complied his statistics.

13. He also never attended a meeting of the conspirators.
I'm not arguing for his enshrinement, but he has a better case than does Rose.

14. didnt he hit like 350 that world series?

17. He hit .375. But, the first 5 games he hit about .200.
A case can be made that he helped throw the first 5 games, and when he realized he wasn't going to get the money he was promised he turned that around, but his testimony to the grand jury is that he never threw a game. He wasn't indicted so...

19. Supposedly, the team had a change of heart around game 5
They thought the gamblers were going to screw them so they tried to win the series. Considering J.J. hit .356 for the year...

First 5 games
.316, 0 HR,
0 RBI

Next 3 games
.462, 1 HR,
6 RBI

Something is off there. Plus, he admitted to taking the money.

Note. I don't know the facts first hand, only from what I've read in the two threads.

15. I would consider point #2 legitimate if he were no longer working in...
baseball at the time, but as manager he was making decisions that could effect results and thus was just as responsible to follow the rules as if he were playing. For this reason he deserved punishment and the ban is just.

20. That's a good point.
I just think once the statistics have been complied as a player, and you've done everything possible to deserve being in the hall of fame, as a player, you should be admitted.

LIke I said before. What would you do if he had already been admitted when he bet on games as a manager? Would you revoke it?
