Geesh, I never thought I'd post one of these "ask me anything" threads :eyes: but the suspense of watching my post count is killing me.

So... whatcha all want to know?

2. "You can't win if you don't play."
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 04:28 PM by intheflow
At least, that's what my local lottery commission tells me. I can't guarantee you will win anything, or how much, but I say: no matter what, your winning odds are probably cleaner with the state lottery commission than with the state election process.

*edit for typo.

So much hype, so little to like in the movie. The scenery was beautiful. The Asian chick kicked ass. Otherwise... no, I didn't like it.

28. Very wise.
Life is too short to watch bad movies and read bad books.

I actually do like old movies. Was raised on the MGM musicals (my mother had always longed to be a starlet). I like the chick movies--Audry Hepburn and Katherine Hepburn and Greer Garson. Can't stand westerns or uber-masculine war movies, John Wayne makes me retch.

May I assume from your question that you like the classics?

my, oh my, but you've mentioned three very worthy actresses! I just watched Greer Garson in 'Pride And Prejudice', yesterday. Love Kathryn Hepburn in 'The Philadelphia Story', and Audrey Hepburn in 'Sabrina' and 'Roman Holiday'. Do you like Bette Davis or Grace Kelly or Joan Fontaine? I too, love the MGM musicals... Have you seen 'Meet Me In St. Louis', 'Easter Parade', 'In The Good Old Summertime', 'An American In Paris', 'Brigadoon', 'The Glass Slipper', 'High Society', or 'Gigi'?

Those are just some of my favorites MGM musicals...

Common Dreams
my church (donations in kind)

If I had more than $100/year to spend on charitable giving, I'd give more to Democracy Now and Common Dreams, I'd send some money in to Conyers, the MS Society, and the American Heart Association.

Sounds interesting. I chose my name during the DU name amnesty after the election. I had to keep reminding myself that I was not seeing the big picture in the flow of time. It reminded me that the robber barons have been overcome in the past, and that history repeats itself. It gave me some damn hope and perspective.

What kind of musical genre is Son Volt?

26. Umm ... I am geographically between 2 UU churches.
2 of my friends go 45 minutes north to Riverside, Ca.

Myself and another friend go south to Escondido in San Diego County (35 minutes away).

We want to form a UU club.

Not so much a Fellowship, for I believe that we still want to attend our churches.

I also like alternating between UU and Church of Religious Science (both open and affirming).

Thoughts? Should it be a liberal issue advocacy club for people of faith, or a UU-club?

We are thinking things over.

92. Hmmmm ..
not a dance club (definitely).

We have weighed this - and are on the fence between discussing spirituality and theology, and engaging in liberal issue advocacy.

That's why we are thinking of forming what is called a 501-c-4, or an issue advocacy organization.

98. OK.
You can always partner with other people of faith to do the advocacy, but to keep the spirit/action connections clear in your own heads, I'd probably keep it UU-only to start.

Here are some books you might be interested in checking out as you move forward to organize and do your work. The first two will base your organizing in UU theology and may be available to borrow from your UU District's office. The third book is just a kick-butt organizing resource.

The Prophetic Imperative by UU minister and social activist Rev. Richard S. Gilbert.

The Essential James Luther Adams, edited by George Kimmich Beach. For your purposes, I'm really only recommending you read the section called "Association and Action".

Organizing for Social Change by the Midwest Academy.

You might also be interested in "The Election Tool Kit" (.pdf): http://www.ncna.org/_uploads/documents/live/Election_tool_kit2.pdf If you're doing anything politcal while affiliating yourself with a UUs or other people of faith, this might be helpful.

Rock on, Maat! I can't wait to hear the kinds of work your club will be doing! :hi:

88. Baseball.
Actually, baseball is my faovirite of the major league sports. Everything else is "goal on either end, warfare over ownership rights." Baseball is visually and strategically unique.

94. Metaphysically speaking,
typing on this keyboard and interacting with people via the web is just an illusion. So no, post counts do not matter in the least on a metaphysical plane.

Of course, they don't matter in the non-metaphysical plane, either. It's really just a way for me to kill time in the a/c on a hot Sunday afternoon. :)
