who the hell made it mandatory for women...
to shave their legs and underarms?

I wanna know as I am getting tired of my dark, Italian nubs coming up after only three days of shaving them, and Nair doesn't help either!!!

2. I don't know
I personally think that underarm hair, on women, is turn on, in some cases.
This is assuming that the original intent for shaving was based on looks.

But I am an old hippie!

10. I'm with ya sister
I couldn't have inherited the Irish side of my family when it came to hair? Instead I have to deal with my eastern European lineage when it comes to body hair. It seems like I have to shave my damn legs every other day in the summer to stay on top of things. I'd love to go au natural but I've so brainwashed myself that I gross myself out when I don't shave

7. It's a conspiracy
Quit shaving, Dee! Hair is normal, natural and very sexy.

9. Just like with make-up
Up until the 1920's (I think), the only women who shaved were hookers and "loose" women.

Wouldn't it be funny if the repugs latched onto this as a cause of loose morals in society? Just think - hairy, ugly repug women everywhere. At least, they'd be easy to spot!

11. Well, try to look at it this way:
We only have to shave every few days. Men have to shave everyday--and some men have to shave twice a day. We may be getting off easy.

18. Yep.
On the days I'm with my boyfriend, he has to shave twice for me because he gets stubbly so quickly. I'm fair-haired and it's fairly fine, so I don't get knicks and it's not a huge deal for me.

I suppose it's cultural. One could argue many underlying causes for those cultural factors. Ultimately, follow whatever your own preference is. :)

12. Thank you!
I hate shaving my legs so much! And I'm a big hairy French girl. I usually don't shave, so I never wear shorts or short skirts. But once I decided not to shave for 14 months. It was so liberating! :hi:

13. I hate shaving
Hubby would actually prefer it if I didn't - he likes the natural look - but I'm so brainwashed by society that I just can't bring myself to do it. Every time it starts coming in, it drives me nuts and makes me very self conscious.

14. Health risk, too.
Every time you shave you risk getting a cut and infection.
Anti-biotic resistant infections like some staph infections, too.

16. I personally could care less
If a woman shaves or not.....

It's what inside that ocunts anyway isn't it....

As I said on the man shaving thing, the first time I with a woman who went "natural" it was I admit, a little disconcerning...

But now, hell who cares anyway...

It's all cosmetic...

Athough really hairy legs in nylons would probably look like hell, so don't wear the nylons......

17. Hot wax.
Relax. As you get older (about early to mid forties), the hair growth slows. I'm down to shaving my legs once every week and a half now.

19. Just don't shave! The shaving thing is just American puritanistic bullshit
anyway.

Fuck it. Let the hair grow, and if yer guy don't like it, dump 'em and find yourself a nice, svelte lesbian who will love you for who yuo are.

20. the razor industry
Before the 1920s, no women shaved. Then, with the change in fashion to short skirts and short sleeves, an advertising campaign was launched telling women it wasn't fashionable not to shave.
