Is my brother crazy? Riding a bike from Portland, ME to Portland, Ore
So, my brother decided to do something crazy to raise money for the Vermont Children's Hospital. At first, I thought he was joking, but it turns out he's actually doing it and is already made it to Des Moines in a little over a week.

Anyways, his blog is as crazy as him

He just finished a 200 mile leg in 100 degree weather in 1 day.

Personally, I'd rather drive. Air conditioning is my friend.

2. I don't think so
I'm a cyclist and was thinking of something to which I could challenge my students to accomplish. If they made it, then I would ride my bike to someplace about 100 miles away or something.

Your brother is someone to be admired in my opinion.

One of the greatest things I ever did...and yeah it was hot and yeah there were times I thought I wouldn't complete the trip..and no..it wasn't a record heatwave year...but your bro is probably in good hands with great chaperones and a fabulous crew...it's a fun way to see the US

I am impressed! I use to ride once in a great while with a guy that won the race across america three times (RAAM). Now that is a crazy race and an exercise in sleep deprivation.

9. He's always been one for crazy sports.
3 years ago he did the Ironman Utah and almost got killd when the wind picked up during the swimming leg. Apparently you couldn't even see which direction you were going.

I would much rather die surfing than in a car accident ;)

5. He's not crazy
It's not only an incredibly cool thing to do, but it's for a good cause.

I rode the largest remaining part of Route 66 in located in Arizona a number of years ago on my bike, and it was one of the ghreatest experiences of my life.

10. I just got back from a 3500 mile roadtrip and that was almost too much :)
I can't even imagine the amount of calories you burn doing that.

14. Hi there, enigmatic!
It's truly lovely to see you, but weird at this time of day! Shouldn't you be sleeping or something? I do hope that your cold is vanishing quickly, even as we speak!

Your bike ride was awesome! Good for you...

15. Hey Peggy!
I'm about to head out to run some errands; I'm usually awake by 11am my time and doing the chores for the day and taking care of station-related stuff.

I'll be back tonight:)

8. Oooh, very nice... Their ETA is around the 9th I think.
They (his wife, father in law, kids riding in the support vehicle) call the media in every big city they go to.

I'll let you know when they get close.

12. I wondered what it would take to ride across the country
I understand it's very flat in the middle, so excellent times can be made - so long as you don't get killed by trucking traffic.

16. It's probably a good idea to have a support vehicle right behind you.
Something a little easier for the traffic to notice :-)
