I saw this on a "making of" about Top Gun.

The executive producer wanted the aircraft carrier turned around for a "golden hour" shot of the carrier from a helicopter (ala W on the USS Abraham Lincoln). The commander of the ship told him that he had orders and turning the ship around would mess them up.... unless he was willing to pay. The Exec. Producer wrote him a check that ended up bouncing.
