It's official, I'm addicted
I put a new hard drive in yesterday, and tried and tried and tried, but I couldn't get the computer to boot up. I got more tense and uptight as I stared down the awful realization that I could be at least two weeks away from my computer.
Two weeks because I'm broke, and the eagle won't fly until the first.
So, I spent a fitful night tossing and turning knowing that unless I could get things worked out Iwould be dependent on the "news" from propaganda radio, half truth tv, and a reptilian rag of a newspaper.

Two weeks of no computer, there's no fucking way, I'd break in the first day.
Somehow though, I got things back to where they were before, I haven't got the new drive working yet, I have to figure out how to change cmos to accept the new drive, but, my blood pressure is falling back to normal, and I don't have the feeling of impending doom hanging over me.
I'm going down into computer help group to see if anyone there can talk me through this, before I do anything else.

1. I know what you mean. My husband & I just got a second computer...

so that we could both be on-line at the same time. It seemed as though every time one of us was using our original computer, the other one was chomping at the bit to get at it.

Now we both can be sitting in the living room at the same time doing our thing. It's gotten so bad that we've now named our computers. He has a Windows system that we've named Max or Maxie (we haven't yet decided what sex it is), and my new Mac PowerBook G4 12-inch system is named Minnie. It's as close as we'll be getting to either pets or kids. :)

2. Did you adjust the harddrive to make it a master?
Sometimes it's set as a slave.

Note: I know next to nothing about computers. I just learned out to build them.

4. All the jumpers and cables
are correct, it's this motherboard, she's too old to do what I want.

3. That is why I bought a Mac.
I hate adjusting all the crap that you have to do in Windows. Never again.

5. two weeks is way too long
I go a little bit stir crazy when the power goes out for a couple hours. After last years wind storm my power was out almost all day, and that was a horrible day, although I kinda missed the air conditioning more.

It is not so much the loss of a computer, because I still have my laptop. It is the loss of the net. Not just for news either since I do my family research on the net. So without it, my only entertainment is books. Plus now, it is my sound system as well, although I still have a boombox and a record player to fall back on. It is not the same variety.
