And the BEST LIVE ROCK RECORDING IN HISTORY IS:
"Conquistador" by PROCOL HARUM with The London Philharmonic Orchestra, hands down.

Close second, "Boom Boom (Out go the Lights)" by the Pat Travers Band.

Yeah, maybe it was sweetened or whatever, but man, I can put that record on and any depression I might feel about the world is temporarily gone.

I love that record - but not Alive II very much, or Alive III (at all) and I'm horrified by KISS Alive IV with the Melbourne (?) symphony. Scary.

42. Geeez! The Hell? Nobody mentions The DEAD?
am I too old for this place?
No on mentions the Grateful Dead?
"Europe '72?"
The Bozos and the Bolos?
OK, maybe it's because they released such a shitload of live stuff. And on occasion, they could suck live.
But Europe 72 .... it had some terrific music on it.
and it brings back memories of dancing with a beautiful hippy girl named Shelley that I was crazy about.
I wore out two vinyl copies of Europe 72.
loved it.

52. Me and Bono shared a coca cola and laughed at the J. Geils Band
in 1982. Tallahasee FLA.

Sat on a road case, stage right, watching the keyboard player with a big old mirror over his board; we laughed cause the keys man said he needed it to watch the band behind him (cough cough) but it sure looked to US like he was watching his ol' bad seff.

It was U2's first US tour, they opened for the J. Geils Band. Those were the days. Mullen was hiding his hair. He had bleached it blonde and thought it was too shocking to let people see it.

55. U2 @ Live Aid Doing "Bad"
is definitely way up there. The performance of that song on that day is what launched U2 into international superstar status, IMHO. I remember having tears welling up, singing along to what was my favorite song at that time, by my favorite band, knowing deep down that they just won the hearts of millions of people all over the world, and being so proud of how much they obviously cared about the world and the people in it.

Much of which was recorded live in concert. Starless And Bible Black has
many live sections on it, but they're so seamlessly blended in with studio
work it gets a bit sticky for this particular post.

In the "Some Call This Rock" Category I have to nominate -

"Between Nothingness And Eternity" by The Mahavishnu Orchestra

Clapton, Bell Bottom Blues, from 24 Nights. One of the great songs of all time, with a truly feel-it-in-your-gut performance! The soaring guitar solo. The gutsy chick singer(s). The whole damn thing. There have been some great live performances named (particularly Whipping Post!), and I'm not taking anything away from them, but this one just gets me every time.
