New Harry Potter Book Leaked
July 11, 2005

The publisher of the new Harry Potter novel is scrambling to recall copies of the book that were sold before its official release date.

"Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" was supposed to go on sale at one minute past midnight this Saturday morning. But last Thursday a few of the novels were sold at a Real Canadian Superstore in Coquitlam.

A BC Supreme Court judge has issued an injunction copying or disclosing any information about the plot, story or characters.

But Raincoast Books spokesman Jamie Broadhurst says they just want the novels back. "We want to speak directly to the people involved, appeal to their sense of the spirit of Harry Potter, assure them we want to protect their security and privacy and all we're asking is that they temporarily return the books to us to Raincoast Books and we'll gladly give them back on July 16th."

The publisher is also offering fans an autograph from J.K. Rowling in exchange for returning the books.

2. Only 14 books were sold before the mistake was discovered
The publisher has received 4 or 5 of them back so far. They people who return them will get them delivered back at the release time (Autographed by JKR) plus a bunch of other goodies.

29. This is #6
There will be a #7 promised from the beginning, and word has it (from a Waldenbooks employee) that JK Rowling has agreed to do an 8th one to wrap it up, one year beyond Hogwarts. That will make Harry 19 years old.

30. I will get there around 11:00 or so
the store I'm getting my copy from is in the mall, and we're hoping some of the other stores stay open to keep us occupied for awhile. They're going to be having lots of fun stuff for people--party atmosphere.

32. They are doing that here too
But I think I will wait until Saturday to pick up my copy. Last Harry Potter book that came out, I pre-ordered from Amazon, convinced that would be the best way to get it. But within a week, I was seeing it in every store in town and for a lower price than I paid.

3. wow, how unlucky for the publisher...
...to have all that free "news" publicity. When does the book come out again? Let me check the article... ah, there it is (three times): Saturday July 16.

5. Is this the last one?
I've grown to like the story. I'll hate to see it end, unless it just gets totally lame.

6. No...I believe this is the sixth in the series.
There will be seven books in the entire series, so, one more to go after this.

7. I understand that each book represents one year in the life of
the characters. If that's the case, at what age does the movie actors become woefully too old to play the part?

11. the first few movies..
were one year apart.. now the movies are like a year and a half between releases..

but the man who plays Draco Malfoy looks like he's 28 years old now.

12. How old is he in real life?
I heard there was something controversial about that character, but I didn't really get into the discussion to follow it.

I did, however, think it was a bit interesting in the last Potter movie how he went from an upper-crust british snooty accent to an almost (stereo-typed) Irish whining one when he was injured by the flying horse creature. I was wondering if that was going to create controversy?

I know it was probably foreshadow that Malfoy doesn't have as much royal blood as he portrays?

I've always like most of King's short stories, as opposed to his novel-length dreck.

26. That's because its likely that
Ron and Hermione get together. Harry has always seemed to look at Hermione in a more sisterly way, but he had a crush on Cho Chang from Ravenclaw in books 4 and 5. Harry isn't gay, NTTAWWT.

And besides, it's quite obvious that even though they fight like dogs, that Ron and Hermione are going to be together.

28. Pssst. Hey, publisher:
If you don't want your books sold, don't ship them to bookstores. And don't try to keep spoilers secret once you do; slip-ups are inevitable.

The court order won't stop word from leaking out from the few early readers.
