1. Coke. -- Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Root Beer etc. -- It's all "Coke"
Getting a carbonated beverage was always "getting a Coke" when I was growing up. And I never drank Coca-Cola. I was a Dr. Pepper kid.

I remember the old-timers of my youth calling it "sodie-water."

The term "pop" is unknown in the South.

12. And where would you go to get a tonic? Why, to the "spa," of course.
Man, did that confuse me when I first moved to New England. I thought, gee, these folks are incredibly health-conscious -- there's a spa on practically every corner!

Spa

A luncheonette or ma-and-pop convenience store (e.g., the Palace Spa in Brighton). Store 24s are never spas.

7. Soft drink

Soda is ice cream in a tall tapered glass.

Pop is what a champagne bottle does.
