Poll question: M*A*S*H : Favorite Character/s, Favorite Episodes
Choice #11 would be "Father Francis John Patrick Mulcahy"
Choice #12 would be "Other"

Who would be your second choice? Do you have any favorite episodes?

I've seen nearly every single episode of MASH... but occasionally I'll stumble across one that I've never seen before. It's always a fun treat to discover a "missed" episode. (In fact, just today was the first time I saw the one where Radar tries to procure tomato juice for Col. Potter.)

1. Even though I adore Radar and admired Klinger's sense of style...
I'd have to say that Maj. Winchester was my favorite character. A bit boorish at times... well OFTEN TIMES... most of the time... I still found him to be funny and likable.

2. Episodes
Jeez, I like so many of them. I like the one where Hawkeye won't take a gun to fend off attackers when he & Potter run the jeep off the road.

The "Dream" episode was NUTS!

I like the one where Potter is trying to shoot something like 32 consecutive "free-throws"

GAWD, I love them all! I could go on and on. I'll stop though.

3. Hawkeye
So many great characters, I love Col. Potter too.

Favorite episodes? I have seen every one numerous times, and I guess the ones that stay with me are "Sometimes You Hear The Bullet", from the 1st season, then from later on, the one where Potter reveals he is the last survivor of a tontine with his WW1 buddies, then the one shown only from a wounded soldier's POV, and the one where they do improvs during "My Darling Clementine" because the projector kept breaking down. But I could come up with a new list tomorrow. :-)

4. Captain Tuttle
When Hawkeye and the gang made up a soldier, I think they called him Captain Tuttle. That was my favorite episode.

5. Best show ever...
Col. Potter is my favorite character....so "Trumanesque".Hawkeye is a close second. I had so many favorite epsiodes. One very memorable one, although sad,is when Henry leaves and then is killed. Also love the whole Klinger/crossdressing/section 8 thing.

6. B.J.
What a sweetheart of a guy. And the actor is very cool, too.

Years ago I was invited to a party in L.A. on the MASH set. I met the guy who played the priest.

And, yes, the party "favors" included creamed dried beef on toast.

7. I can't watch MASH anymore.
I used to love the show, but I can't stand to watch it now. It's so shrill (really) and preachy, it really grates on my nerves.

8. I preferred the earlier season's....
After Henry left it wasn't as funny IMHO.

I still loved it and watched every week religiously, it just wasn't the same for me.

With Trapper and Hawkeye, the writing leaned more to the jokes, but had a nice blend of incorporating the serious side of war.

After henry left it still had that for a couple years but then got much more serious when Frank left.

I have almost every episode pre-Henry and back.

Favorite episode, which came to mind as I type this is, ironically enough, the episode that Henry left. The dinner scene at the Korean restaurant in the village is a classic!!! And then the death of Henry that brought the realism of war home at the end.

I can vividly remember the feeling I had when we found out Henry's plane went down...

9. I wanted to be Hawkeye growing up.

Favorite episode. Not sure on the name. It is the one where Maj. Winchester gives sweets to the orphans. He gets pissed at the guy running the orphanage for selling the sweets on the black market. He then gets pissed at himself when the korean man tells him he has sold the sweets in order to buy enough rice and cabbage for a month. He also get a stocking cap. Great episode! David Ogden Spears(on edit I think it is Stiers???) did a lot with that character.

13. that WAS a good episode.... and I agree...

David Ogden Stiers is a very good actor and it definitely showed in his portrayal. I love all the actors, but Alan Alda as Hawkeye is so special. BJ was great too (and Ilove him even more as a DEM activist). Superb casting all around. I never could understand why those associated with the movie version were so nasty about the show.... To this day, I think they still disparage it.

10. I used to adore the show
but now that I am sober I don't. I know it may seem silly but the cavalier attitude toward alcohol doesn't hold up for me. That said I loved Winchester and Mulcahey. Both were great characters played very well. Best episodes were, the chocolate one that has already been mentioned, the one with the gay gi, and the one with the guy they turn black. All taught valuable lessons.

14. I think the alcohol use has to be looked at through a periscope...
of the time. The stunts pulled in my teen years (especially re: alcohol and driving) would horrify people today, but drinking and driving were not looked at the same way as now. Everything is relative. But, I can understand the sensitivity for someone who has fought alcohol as an addiction...

11. Tons of great episodes
but if I had to choose three

1) Hawkeye is in a jeep accident and is rescued by a Korean family and entertains with a non-stop monologue.

2) Charles tries to build the spirits of a concert pianist whose hand has been paralyzed.

3) The "interview" episodes with Clete Roberts.

16. There was an episode in which a white racist patient...
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 09:45 PM by JavaJive
was terribly concerned about possibly receiving a transfusion of "black" blood. So later, while he was unconscious, they darkened his skin a bit with dye and told him "oh! we must have given you some of that 'black' blood by mistake."

19. Great Episode! --- Do you recall when Harry Morgan wasn't Potter??
It was the first time he had ever appeared on MASH and when Henry Blake was still in charge. Harry Morgan played a looney-tune racist general who was trying to courtmartial Hawkeye... I think.

17. I voted for Hawkeye, even though "M*A*S*H" really was...

...an emsemble show with many strong characters and no true star. That's one of the many things I liked about it.
