Poll question: 0 or Zero?
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 07:07 PM by bigwillq
How do you pronounce the letter Zero (0) when it's in a phone number, Credit card #, SS #, etc....

Just wondering.

Sorry the poll didn't record the '0' option so I had to change it to 'Oh'

1. Oooh..
a pet peeve of mine. There's a difference, folks: "Zero" is a number. "O" is a letter. It's just one more syllable; don't be lazy..!

3. Sometimes I say it both ways
It's not being lazy, it's just a habit to say 'Oh'

2. Zero.
Specificity helps when speaking to someone, especially over the phone.

7. Odd that you should bring this up today...
...I was calling an automated interactive voice response unit at an insurance company today. The first time I read off my boss' Tax ID number I used "oh" for zero, and the readback said "zero" -- so the VRU's have already been programmed to accept both. Later on, I said "zero" -- any bets on whether it was the VRU's response that changed my mind? :)
