What do you think of herbal medicine?
I take valarian in the evening to help me sleep. And, I take garlic and ginko for cholesterol. I sleep better and my last cholesterol check-up was fine.

1. I'm all for them
I've taken some in the past. To be honest, I trust that stuff a lot more than I trust the medical "professionals".
I do think that it is up to each person as to which way they want to go though.

2. Well, I know valerian root works, but it sure stinks :)
I mean . . . that is some NASTY smelling stuff.

There are a lot of herbal remedies that work very well.

3. I think it makes more sense than using pharmaceuticals.
Herbal medicine strengthens your immune system and overall integrity of your body.

Pharmaceuticals are generally used when you have an imbalance in your system (auto-immune disease, a virus, etc.) and attack only the problem instead of letting the body work through the problem and emerge stronger. With the exception of life-saving products of insulin, etc., herbal medicine is a good alternative for stable health.

just make sure you research everything before taking it.

So, garlic and ginko biloba work for cholesterol? I ask because mine is a bit high. Do you have any good herbal web-sites you might share?

6. They can be useful.
But the health food store is not my first stop for all health problems.

And use of herbal products requires study. Don't assume they are all harmless. They can have unfortunate effects--for some people, or in some quantities. I read about a lady who was fond of pennyroyal tea--she was avoiding caffeine because of her pregnancy. But she didn't know it was historically used as an abortifacient.

I've used tea tree oil for nail fungus. It's a minor but annoying problem & the systemic fungicides advertised have too many side effects.
