My cat Gandalf will NOT SHUT UP!

Nothing acute, mind you. He has walked about the house talking his head off since I adopted him earlier this year.

I answer him: "What, Gandalf? What you need?"

Gandalf: "Meow meow meow... meow... meow meow..."

Me: "Gandalf, what the HELL?"

Gandalf: "Meow MEOW meow meow meow..."

I pull up the blinds for him. Meow. I check his food, water, and pan (everything clean and full). Meow. I grab a mouse or a toy and play with him. After we're through, meow.

Meow meow meow... oh MAKE IT STOP! :banghead:

My cats get vocal every now and then, but for the most part, they're pretty quiet. Last night, Dora was meowing at my feet...I looked down, she had brought a toy and wanted to play.

When my cat was about 8, she started partrolling the house late at night, meowing as if she'd lost something. She did it every night very late, and she wouldn't stop.

About two years later, she stopped cold. Never did it again. Weird.

They don't really get along, but we keep them separated. But no, no other cats.

18. Do you find that your american eskimo is agressive?

My mom got one that is now about 8 months old. Its the worst dog Ive ever seen. Im actually scared of it and we have a wolf/malamute hybrid.

Hers is incredibly well behaved when she is around.. she has never hit or abused it... but when she isnt, its like a devil hellspawn. I was reading a book and he wanted me to pet him.. so he kept nipping at my skirt sleeve and then pulling, so Id ignore him.. eventually he started being very forceful and even snarling. He is incredibly headstring and seems to think he is the master, not the other way around.

20. Oh, yes. That is Pippin to a T.

He just made a year. He is VERY independent and has a Napoleon complex. We have paid for obedience lessons which have helped quite a bit. We absolutely permit him no goodies, food, nor extra special attention unless he obeys at least ONE or TWO commands. (He must "earn his keep.")

It sounds a little hard, I know, but he understands well that we are the bosses, not him.

Also, if he begins to bite, get a spray bottle of water and hit him everytime he growls or tries to bite you.

I think Pippin, because of his behavior, was abused a little bit before we adopted him because he submission pees. Each time I leash him, I have to energize him with a nervous "No pee! No pee! No pee!" so he understands that pee time is around the corner - hold it, man.

Otherwise he is a fun dog - great to take in the backyard and play frisbee. We still need to get him used to bicycles, other dogs, and Gandalf.

26. He's mom's dog so I just keep my distance

Ill definately try the water trick on the next visit. Tried the spray bottle on Dr. G and he likes it. He is a strange cat.

Its interesting that you said that about "submission pees" this dog, whose name is Putin.. as in Vladimir.. no wonder he has a complex :) was actually a friend of my mom's who had 2 small children. They had to relocate so my mom "adopted" him when he was about 4 months old. When I go to see her, the dog jumps all over me and scratches up my legs, which my mom doesnt do anything about other then to half heartedly tell him to get down. When I force him down he will turn over on his back and pee on me. It's great, I tell you.. Or when he gets too excited, he will spontaneously pee.

28. Yep. I just had a huge party for my 30th birthday...

and Pippin couldn't stop peeing all over my friends. It was so embarrassing :( so we put him back in his room. He loves people, but he loses control of his bladder so easily.

Our adopted MC is VERY talkative too. If you aren't giving him enough attention...watch out. Perhaps it's a breed thing.

Either way, I am sure it is his way of expressing his happiness and content with his life and being with you. You're wonderful to adopt a fur baby, and I'm sure he's just letting you know he loves you!

Sigh... I love him and hate him. This cat meows at God only knows what pretty constantly. And he is stubborn. If Im busy trying to work, he will not take no for an answer. He must sit on the keyboard. This is difficult when you are trying to work from home. Im not a big fan of hitting animals, so sometimes, when I feel I might have to chop him up with a machette, I lock him in the laundry room for a time out.

Well, now... he meows every night to get into the laundry room. He thinks its his bedroom or something. If we go to bed and forget to let him in there, he will meow at the door until we go and open up the laundry room door.

He is very strange. Plus, he now has an obsession with my valerian. I have to put the bottle in a drawer, as he will paw open cabinents to get to it, even if I hide it way in the back under things.

Arg..

Have you tried to hide it in the fridge? The smell doesn't leak out as easily.

but the fridge is a good tip. I gotta admit, I probably feed his addiction. He's like a crack addict.. The other day I decided to actually give him a pin sized amount from a gelcap..

He snorted it up like a line of something, I did you not.. then he just mellowed out for a few hours. Im going to try putting it in one of the kitty toys and seeing if he likes it better then his catnip.

Gandalf takes them down in about 12 seconds. He has a kinked tail that curls over his back (his staff.) It does quite a bit of damage.

If you sit down and pet him does it stop? Some cats are just attention hogs. You may have to put him in another room if it really annoys you sometimes.

Or, he might just be a talker. Sometimes mine just starts yapping for no reason at all.

How old is he? If he's under 2, he's going to grow out of a lot of annoying behaviours as he gets older... this might be one of them.

Is one of my toms, sort of clay-colored with tiger-like stripes. He likes to chew on toes when he wants his canned cat food. He's got to be the smartest cat in the world (maybe too smart for his own good), and he NEVER shuts up.

The reason that I mentioned his looks is because from what I can tell, he's not even part Siamese...according to my Mrs., who has had cats all her life, Siamese cats are known talkers.

I don't know if your cat is Siamese, but the fact is that he's got a lot to say. Maybe he doesn't want anything from you, he just wants to talk.

My two-cents, keep the change.

32. Okay now that I have read all of the posts, my 2 cents...

My Siamese (Blu) is the quietest of all my cats (5), he does meow when he is absolutely mad about something,(like he's waited long enough for me to feed him, and is not going to wait anymore) but otherwise stays quiet, so that's a bad rap on Siamese. I do have one that meows quite a bit (MooMoo) and she's just a plain short hair black and white, and she's a thief, in the middle of the night, she meows constantly as she's stealing stuff and stashing it...I found one of her stashes and she had earrings, gloves, socks, the dogs toys, pieces of fabric and a bunch of junk...I think she meows to cover her thieving, to cover the noise while she's digging in boxes or getting into things she shouldn't...

Anyway, try catnip or Valerian root (I did see the post where the poster had a hard time keeping cat away from his Valerian) it's what is in the herbal pills given to animals to relax them for trips etc. (Valerian and chamomile).

He could be letting the dog know he's still there, or wants to get to know the dog. Or maybe he's just happy...

Otherwise, look for his stash, maybe, he's like MooMoo, just trying to cover-up what he's up to.
