My WiFi is all over the place. My normally "excellent" signal
is saying "very low" and/or keeps disconnecting. When I view available networks it still says the signal should be excellent. So why then when I log on is it very low? Please help before I get booted again!

3. Any other WiFi users in your area?
Most WiFi units (routers, etc...) use the same "channels" as a default, and it usually doesn't cuase much trouble.

But if you get a few all trying to operate in the same area, they can start clobbering each other.

Try changing your channel.

10. Yes, I live in an apartment complex.
The other networks are private.

14. Even if private, they use channels.
If you know how to access your WiFi routers setup, try changing it's channel a few times and see if any provide an improvement. Keep track of the starting channel, incase you decide you aren't getting anywhere and want to reset it as it was.

Good luck.

15. Ooooo. Just had another thought.
If there are other networks in range, check and make sure you are connecting to YOUR network. Ie: make sure your machine hasn't decided to connect to some other network with a weaker signal.

4. Check to see if there is a new wireless network nearby
They might be using the same wireless channel as you and interfering with your signal.

7. Hypothetically, what if I was on a generally open network?

16. Doesn't matter it's not about access/security it's about interference..
It's somewhat like when a person next door turns on a blowdryer and causes your TV set to go snowy. If you change wireless channels, as someone pointed out above, you should be fine!

My wifi weakens when we have thunderstorms.

6. Weathers beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky.
Although, on a side note, my Sirius seemed to have a lot of unusual static today. Doubt it's connected, but it is interesting.

9. It's just so odd. The wifi network icon in bottom right hand corner
of my screen says strength is very low. When I open network connections, it shows the signal as excellent. I just don't get it.
