My nephew is getting married tomorrow
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 11:33 PM by proud2Blib
Tonight was the rehearsal dinner. Until yesterday, my sister (the groom's mom) had decided not to have our mom come to the rehearsal dinner. Mom is nearly 80 and diabetic and senile. Anyway, yesterday, my sister's conscience got to her and she decided my mom should come to the dinner tonight. She asked me to drive Mom to the dinner.

Before I go any further, I should let you all know that my sister married money. BIG money. She is president of the Junior League. And appearances are primo importante. The rehearsal dinner was held at one of the fanciest restaurants in town. And of course the food (and drink) was the BEST. And some of the most important people (and wealthiest) in this town were there.

Anyway, my mom drank wine tonight. And champagne. My son was sitting next to her and my husband was across from her and both of them told the waiter to stop filling her wine glass. My son said later he didn't think the waiter spoke English. And they kept serving my mom chocolate. And the dessert was this custard thing with fruit and whipped cream.

When the best man and the matron of honor started giving their toasts, my mom was yelling that she wanted more wine. I mean yelling so loud that all 100 people there were staring at her. And the nonEnglish speaking waiter kept filling her glass. My son was looking at me at the other end of the table with this pained expression that said "we need to get her out of here".

Fortunately, I had only a couple glasses of wine and I got the message. So we made a polite departure. We got in the car and had only gone 3 or 4 blocks when my mom puked all over herself and the front seat of my car. My first thought was 'well, at least we are not in the restaurant anymore'. You know, saving face was more important than worrying about my mom's well being.

So now my car smells like puke, my mom will probably be sick all day tomorrow (thank goodness the wedding is tomorrow night and not in the middle of the day) and I think maybe my sister was right to think the rehearsal dinner would be too much for my mom. And I feel like the world's worst daughter.

Why didn't the kid just elope?

1. Poor Mom. My heart goes out to her.
Work your whole life to end up an embarrassment to your wealthy children. I think you just might be the good daughter. You took her. Did she have a good time before she lost control? I hope so.

5. I lived in a trailer park for a year 26 yrs ago.
Best people in the world. People on the way up, and people on the way down, and some just there. I've lived in a condo for about 13 yrs now, and am seriously considering moving back to a trailer park. Maybe you were just kidding about being trailer trash, but I'm not. I liked those people.
