5. Matters what I'm doing ...
weight training, something with power: Back Sabbath, Aerosmith, etc. When I do cardio, I got a friend who's a DJ, so I get long dance mixes and I use the beat as rythym.

6. German Post Punk Bubble Gum
Aqua, Blumchen, Scooter. Former punk bands gone pop. High energy. Driving beat. Up tempo. If you can stand still while listening somethings wrong.

7. Classic rock from the 60's and 70's
Anything by The Who or The Rolling Stones will usually help me get my second wind.

Aerosmith, Van Halen, BTO, or Lynyrd Skynyrd will often have a beneficial effect as well.

8. Depends on what you are doing
Edited on Mon Jul-21-03 11:07 AM by Blue_Chill
For weight training I go for heavy and angry. White Zombie as someone already mentioned or something along those lines.

For hittin the heavy bag I go for music with more beat with constant speed up and slow downs to match punches thrown. I enjoy using trance and Drum & Base.

For running I need something relaxing. Avoid radio news programs as they may get make you distracted (and angry) enough to wander in front of a bus.

10. Techno remixed classical music is great for workouts
Classical music has a natural rhythm that changes from fast to slow without being jarring, and the driving bass keeps the blood flowing. I have bits of several symphonies by various composers on my MP3 player, I just wished someone took the time to remix entire symphonies and such. The classical music really helps me focus too.

12. I had a nice lengthy list I was going to send you
Edited on Mon Jul-21-03 03:09 PM by SOteric
but the message timed out and I lost it in the T-Zone.

Summarising: When I go running I like to listen to early Motown. Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Jr. Walker & the AllStars, The Marvelettes, The Temptations and even some Gladys Knight.

I'm not old enough for it to be nostalgic, but these are songs that are part of the American Cultural Legacy. We all know them. They're light, have a perfect beat for a pleasant run and I always end up feeling somehow better about the world when I hear Smokey's Cruisin' during a jog around the lake.

Edit: I mean seriously, who could sit still to "Heard it Through the Grapevine?"

13. AC/DC...
(or any other Camaro rock) I was going to a gym in the mid-90s that constantly played the local "modern rock" station. Take my word for it, it is virtually impossible to work out to Hootie, Dishwalla, Gin Blossoms,etc... Needless to say, I didn't renew my membership.

14. Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense" and The Clash "The Story of..."
I don't work out per se, but if I'm putting a disk in my portable player and going for a long walk, those are my 1st and 2nd choices.
