here we go again (peeyewwwww!)
Last week, I had an adventure with a dead animal in the yard. It was a racoon that died up under some vines and took us several days to find . . . only after I had fruitlessly torn up half my deck looking for it.

Now, we have another dead thing stinking up the house. It sure smells like it is really under the deck this time.

So tomorrow, I get to go on stink patrol and try to locate the foul carcass.

What an awful stench.

I am certain that my fundy neighbor, who just put his house on the market, (or his realtor, who is also a fundy), put out poison to deal with the neighborhood's wildlife and feral cats.

Putting out poison is so indiscriminate.

1. can you contact someone in the village?
there might be an ordinance against doing something like that, and someone in code services might be able to detect something.

or are the neighborhood cats having a field-day with small rodent animals?

(did you sign the letter?
here's the link)

2. The feral cats are no problem
We just had a neighborhood capturing, spaying and neutering program

We do have recurrent rodent issues (field mice) and the cats are pretty helpful with that.

The racoons are noisy and a little destructive, but also kind of cool.

We found a dead skunk (the skunks have been a BIG smelly problem for several years now) three weeks ago. The dying wildlife leads us to suspect poison. This all started when the neighbor put up the for sale sign.

I doubt the city government would be much help, but you raise a good point. Perhaps we should report the concentration of animal deaths. What if it's some sort of disease?

5. right. we had a run on west nile around here a couple years ago.
my neighbor and i were on dead crow look-out and reported numerous west nile crows. i don't know how good it was--maybe it helped the village know how much more they needed to mosquito spray. last year hardly any dead crows in the area.

6. we had two people in our neighborhood infected with West Nile
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 10:21 AM by leftofthedial
two years ago.

The CDC and state people did an investigation and concluded that both were infected elsewhere and only live next door to one another coincidentally.

We're not finding dead birds, just small mammals.

4. That fucking sucks!
Poison poisons everything and reaps havoc in the neighborhood.

Call animal control and see what they say about it.
