and you wanted to get their permission to reprint something they'd written, (they're not a writer, so the stuff is not work-related), would you send a mail to them there?

If you would, what time would you do it so as to be the least intrusive and obnoxious?

On edit... they have published their work phone number as well, but I thought that would be worse and more intrusive than an e-mail.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

1. I would send them a pornographic picture of myself first.
You know, just to see if they're cool with getting personal stuff at work.

3. I would contact t hem via work email unless you think it's something that
they might get in trouble for on company email. If you think it might be "offensive" to the employer, then email the person and tell them you'd like to permission to reprint something they'd recently written and ask them if there is a personal email that you can contact them at to discuss.

Just my 2 cents.

4. I don't think timing is the issue

I would be concerned that the email would be considered personal and may get him in trouble with his employer.
I suggest a simple note asking him how you can contact regarding an article he had written.

5. I might send an email saying
"I have a nonwork-related question for you, and apologize for using this email address but it was the only one I could locate. When you have the time could you please call me at _____." Send it during the work day.

Dear so-and-so,

I realize that this is your work email, but I have found no other contact information for you. If you are not allowed to use your business Email for non-work-related correspondence, please contact me at [email protected]

Thank you very much,
