For the first time this school year, I am pissed at my son's teachers.
He is a special needs child, less than ten years old. They have kept his best interest in mind all year up until today. They had a playday for this last day of school, and they let them play outside in the water (kiddie pools) without a shirt on. He's sunburned now and miserable. Had to run out for aloe vera with lidocaine to ease his pain. the first application soaked right in and was dry in no time. He'll be getting some tylenol later.

I know. They didn't do it on purpose. But they shouldn't have been so careless.

1. Did your kid have fun at the time?
As a kid that's all that mattered to me.

3. These things happen.
One of my friends is the mother of a biracial child and one summer she allowed him to play outside with his friends. She was shocked and embarrassed when he came home sunburned. She thought his father's side had taken care that not ever happening to him.
Oh well.
Live and learn.

4. You should definitely talk to them about it
Nothing harsh, since they have done a good job all year and it's an honest mistake, but they should be aware for the future...

5. yeah that happens at my son's school too
today they had field day... and he has a very red face. They tend to forget about these things unless it's little kids. At the baseball game we all went to last week, I was the only parent with sunscreen and I had to pass it around to everyone.

6. This time of year, surprised it's not mentioned
My son's day care and I remember his K teacher asking that we pack sunscreen in their backpacks, when the days got longer. Even though we are "melanin enhanced" we do burn and we do use it....

7. You are right.
This needs to be brought to the school's attention.

It was definitely careless. You should call the principal tomorrow.
