The best line in the new Star Wars movie is:
By Mrs. Darth Vader:

"So this is how Liberty dies....with thunderous applause."

So by a show of aye's...how many people thought there was an underlying message of "anti-status quo" in the movie. I surely felt like Lucas took several jabs...not to mention I felt like the story-line as a whole was a reminder of the shitstorm we find ourselves in today.

 nice!

I agree on the line BTW, and also that there were many references to current events, so to speak.

And welcome to DU BTW!

6. I'm glad I'm not the only one...
I have to say...I haven't found myself that politically angry since the Republican Convention this last year.

When I left that movie...I was just so pissed about our present day situation. Me and my buddies started talking about the connections within the film...and within a half hour...we were all pissed.

15. And thanks for the welcome...
but I've been here for a while.

I've been registered for almost a year. But I mostly lurk (I hate that word) cause I like to read all of the insightful stuff. I just don't post that often.

This makes me sound thin-skinned...but when I first joined...I asked a stupid question and was promptly flamed. I wanted to know more about Delay...because I was still kind of new to in depth politics...not new to politics...but I was like many Democrats before "Palpantine" took over the US...I knew which side of the fence I was on...but didn't know what that meant. So now I'm a little leary when it comes to posting.

17. Glad to see I'm not the only one who was mad when I left the theater.
Not becuase of the movie, but I sorely wanted to pick a fight with a repub acquaintance (he's no longer a friend) after seeing Episode III.

7. I loved how the entire theater laughed when Luke said that..
I don't remember if they did in 77, but they did at the re-release. Whiney little teenager. :)

21. That line was PATHETIC
I cringed when they did it, esp. with Darth doing that awful body movement.

TOTALLY FUCKIN' DUMB and cliche.

23. something a lot less lame
Like, no words at all...just a long silence with maybe a sight movement of the head.

Yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" like in 800 million other movies does nothing but show a lack of creativity on the part of the writer. Same with, "Oh, God, what have I done?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

5. I liked Palpatine's reply to Mace Windu
Mace: (Paraphrased) - The Senate will decide your fate

Palpatine: I "am" the Senate (given even more menace as it was said with the Emperor's voice vs. the one Palpatine normally used).

8. Perhaps we should list all the lines that...
you remembered (like I did) because they had political tint to them that related to today.

And that line from the Senator...that one made the hair on my neck stand up.

14. Sounds like a Delay quote I've read.......
He lit up a stogie in a restaurant and someone sitting nearby told him that smoking in the restaurant violated government regulations.
Delay was quoted as saying, "I AM the government."

At which point I got some encouragement by a theatre full of laughter.

11. That was the second best line.
The best were when Padme asked Anikin if he didn't fear that they had become what we were fighting against and explained that the rebels were fighting for freedom while they were now fighting against democracy...

16. major spoiler here
ANAKIN struggles to pull himself up the embankment with his mechanical hand. His thin leather glove has been burned off. He keeps sliding down in the black sand.

OBI-WAN: (continuing) . . . You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would, destroy the Sith, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to the Force, not leave it in Darkness.

OBI-WAN picks up Anakin's light saber and begins to walk away. He stops and looks back.

ANAKIN: I hate you!

OBI-WAN: You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you.

ANAKIN'S clothing blows into the lava river and ignites. Suddenly ANAKIN bursts into flames and starts SCREAMING.
