4. Season finale was god damn good
Old scores squared up, starting with a clean slate for next year.

I thought there were two scenes in last year's season finale were outstanding. The one where Doc is venting to God and mocks scenes from his service as a Civil War doctor. "Help me find my arm, Mother! I can't find my arm!" The other was where Swearengin eutanized the camp reverend. The reverend has a brain tumor.
I thought those two scenes were among the best TV I have ever seen. No episode of this year matched last year's finale, but this year's finale came close.

9. God I hate EB
that slimey litle toad. Him and Tolliver. Almost all the others have some redeeming feature, including Al Swearingen; even Wolcott is, in some sick way, an honest man.

The episode where William Bullock was laid to rest was one of the saddest things I've ever seen on TV. "Deadwood" is possibly the best thing HBO has done yet. I keep asking myself, "How do they keep doing it?"

10. Because they're entirely subscriber-funded, they don't have to
please commercial sponsors. This means they can give the producers of the shows complete artistic control.

12. Well yeah, clearly that's part of the reason.
But I was thinking more along the lines of the talented writing--they just seem to have *so much* of it, it's almost unbelievable.

13. Well, talented writers see a channel where they don't have to
be hacks turning out formulaic drivel, and they naturally flock to it.

Wouldn't you?

11. best deadwood ever!!!
Who knew that Deadwood could produce such a relatively happy season finale. I have to say Wolcott is the most despicable character ever on the show..... but even I felt a little pain for him in this episode. A credit to the writing and the show itself that even the most disgusting character like him is one of many dimensions.
PS who else sees an unconventional marriage coming up with Charlie Udder, Joanie and Jane??? It would kickass for sure :)
