What's your favorite old picture?
This was taken about 86 years ago. My grandparents with my uncle on the left and my mom on the right.

1. My favorite old photo is 99 years old...
Bummer, I can't scan it but I have a cool picture of my Grandpa standing next to his 1906 Indian motorcycle. We all wish we still had the bike, but I'll have to settle for his pair of goggles that he was stylishly wearing up on his head at the time of the photo.

2. Got a digital camera? That's what I used for my pic.

3. Nope, I'm the luddite in these matters....
Cripes, I couldn't even say computer three years ago. I admit I'm getting better, though, and as soon as the Bush* economy gets moving I'll bag one of those toys.

4. I bought this camera as a stop smoking gift to myself.
I'm coming up on my six month anniversary, so it's all paid for....

huge favor for your long-term health!

And you used your digital camera to get that old photo into your computer? Of course! I'd been thinking that a scanner is the only way to go, and I don't have one; but I do have a digital camera. So how do you do it? Prop the pic up and then photograph it? Are there any tricks that I should know?
Please advise! And thank you....

:hi:

Edited to add: that old pic of yours is OUTSTANDING, IMHO!

6. I lay the picture flat on the floor near a natural light source.

I turn off the flash. Then I just move the camera until the picture fills the frame of the viewer.

I take the picture at the higest resolution possible, then use Photoshop to reduce the pic to 8" in the longest direction. I also save it (with a different name) to a lower resolution file.

I've tried taking pictures in VGA mode, but you lose a lot of definition.

edit to add more directions

7. Very good advice....
Thank you. Unfortunately, the flash in my little digital beast cannot be turned off. However, there are ways around this. I'll try it, as I have a number of old pics that I'd love to share...

You have inspired me! Today with this old picture, and yesterday with your wonderful pictures of Boston. I am in your debt!

:woohoo:
