Is there any interest in a diet/weight loss group?
I belong to the Exercise and Fitness Group but I'd sure love to see a group in which I could talk with other "losers" about what's working and what isn't. :D

Please reply if you're interested.

1. Isn't there already one of those?
Hmmm....maybe I'm wrong, but I seem to remember a weight-loss group on DU.

4. Woops, replied to wrong post.
I've checked again and couldn't find such a group. I do remember someone mentioning it once, I think in the Exercise group, but it may not have been an actual proposal.

2. I'd be interested
I was checking out the Exercise and Fitness Group but every post over there seems to be from Mr. Muscles talking about how he ran 20 miles that morning or how many reps someone did on the nautilus. No offense to the fitness nuts, but yes, I'd like to talk to others that are struggling, or just beginning or just figuring out what might work for them. Diet and nutrition is not really included in that forum either.

3. I looked at the list of groups before I posted this and couldn't find one.
Maybe I missed it? I looked most closely at the "Ds" for Diet and "Ws" for Weight Loss. If there is one, I'd sure like to know about it!

5. I participate in that group and while there are a few of us trying to lose
weight, there are many who are lean, mean, workout addicts! ;) A couple have even posted how to GAIN weight!

It doesn't bother me but it would be nice to talk shop with others in the same boat.

6. I agree
I weigh 290 and could use some tips/motivation to lose the weight. I wasn't always this way, I weighed 150 11 years ago when I graduated HS.

12. Now that we won't get slammed for wanting to improve
ourselves a little around here, I'd be up for it, too.

My husband and I just issued each other a challenge, and I plan to win, so I could use the motivation. :)

13. Okay, now that we're just one member away from the required ten
members, how about a stab at a mission statement? You're welcome to make your editing suggestions! (I borrowed from the Exercise and Fitness Group's mission statement, including the disclaimer, which I believe Skinner added.)

"The DU Weight Loss/Maintenance Group exists as a place for people who are interested in losing weight and keeping it off. Support and advice from those who are experts, novices or who are interested in beginning a weight loss plan are welcome.

Please consult a physician before beginning any weight loss program."

I don't see how your mission statement could be improved on! We'll see what everyone else feels, though!

:D

(Not that you can't do it here, but we'll want something to talk about in our group! ;))

29. Whoops! Bad wording...
I meant I'm on a better diet than I was before, which was mostly chocolate bars and broccoli florets.

19. I would like to join
even although I've just had weight loss surgery. I will still need to eat healthily and manage my life more diligently. It's not my intent to push the pros and cons of WLS in case that is a concern of anyone. I just want to be healthy. What people do for themselves is their business.

I also tried the exercise group & was pretty embarrassed about my measly 2 mile walks. Those folks are serious!

22. I've sent Skinner the group request.
I haven't done this since the ATA forum went away but I assume he'll PM or email me when he creates the group. When that happens, I'll PM everyone who has expressed an interest and make announcements in other groups and forums.

Thanks, y'all! I'm excited to see this group get started! It will be great to compare notes on our progress with DUers! :D

I really need some help and encouragement (not to mention learning some discipline!), and knowing others are in the same boat and struggling with the same issues, we can help one another succeed (hopefully!!)

25. I'd be interested.
I'm not really overweight, but if I lost 5 to 10 pounds I'd be feeling more fabulous. Also, I need to firm up and need motivation to keep exercising consistently.
