I'm feeling guilty about dropping my dialup ISP...
I've been with my ISP for going on seven years now. In my little rural community, he was the first one to offer internet service at all out here, and I know the guy quite well.

But there's a big pipe guy in town, happily another long-term local, offering high-speed wireless that seems to be working out for those that have it. After I drop $200 on gear and lose the extra phone line, the cost per month is the same.

I have such fond memories of my dialup guy... he had practically never seen a Mac before me, and worked with me to figure it all out at the get-go. Heck, when I first signed up, there were a lot of months when he just plain forgot to send bills out. I'd call and remind him, he'd tell me to forget about it.

Ach. There are only these two options, sadly. The high-speed looks so nice. I gotta do it.

But I still feel guilty. :(

Don't feel too bad. Maybe he will start to offer high speed soon and you can switch back!

2. You could keep the dial-up...
...for emergencies, say, when the DSL is out but you still have dial tone. I'd recommend it particularly if your DSL provider doesn't offer such back-up access.

5. That's what I did.
I signed up with Speakeasy.org for SUPERIOR DSL, but I needed to keep my old email address still accessible. The old ISP also had DSL, but I wanted Speakeasy. So I downgraded that account to the minimum monthly charge. I didn't have to use it all that often, but it did wonders for peace of mind. (Belt AND suspenders).

8. Good points
...although I kept the rabbit ears. Where I live, you can sometimes get a nearby ABC affiliate, mostly when they seem to boost the power for the ag report. :D
