19. What does training consist of, how often?
I think that such training should be mandatory in my workplace. We do have a little bit of a problem though it is not quite as bad as when I first started with the company.

21. A lawyer from the company's legal firm...
conducts a series of 30-minute reviews of the company's written harassment policy. It happens only when someone complains about harassment, which is kind of unfortunate. The last time was 1999.

There are a series of these meetings because everyone is assigned a time and attendance is MANDATORY. They make you sign in to catch any who did not come.

It covers sexual, workplace harassment and threatening workplace environment, as well as specific behaviors. It details the complaint procedure, who to see, and the chain of complaint command.

Very comprehensive.

It is routinely made fun of and loathed by employees here, many of whom threw out their written harassment policy copies as they left the room.

It does very little, if any, good.

That's about all of it in a nutshell.

20. Reminds Me of Chris Rock's Bit
"Sexual harrassment is telling a subordinate, 'Sleep with me or you're fired.' Everything else is just trying to get laid."

22. Yep, it is very easy to poke fun at, unless you have been a victim.
It can make 8 hours or more, 5 days a week a total hell for the victim.

25. It is a 360-degree harassment policy. Any offensive behavior...
...is not tolerated under the policy. On the other hand, if you complain, not much will really get done and if others find out, there will be retribution against you (even tho the policy says there won't).

Management, which the policy says "are expected to be alert to the possible presence of harassment," generally won't do a thing when it is brought to their attention. I know people who have had the short end of the stick by pointing it out. They don't work here anymore. Their harassers still do.

Basically, the policy is there to prevent or mitigate against lawsuits. It is not really there to stop harassment, though it says that it is.

28. It sounds somewhat like our workplace
Although perhaps mine is a little better. One woman did complain about two different men. They were both talked to. Nothing else happened to them, although one was fired later for another reason. The woman was made fun of although not to her face. The complaint did help somewhat though in that the level of harassment in the plant did go down somewhat. I was not that woman, although I could have adequate grounds to complain about around 1/3 of men in the plant.
In general though, some people think that it is their right to harass and that it is perfectly good fun and that people who object are spoil sports.
I hope that at my next job, I won't have to put up with this crap.
