24. Wow!
That's quite a trek. My wife and I went to the North Rim just after it opened for the year in 2002. A week before it was 100F in Pheonix, but it was snowing on the North Rim. We also went to the G.C. Star Party in 6/03 on the South Rim. Coming from humid, flat and light-polluted Ohio, the skies seemed pretty amazing.

Hopefully, we will do the sourthern part of Bright Angel this Xmas. Last year we wanted to but we had no time to train for it with all the campaign activies.

Except I had voted for Other already, so your poll is now hopelessly skewed. Sorry.

18. Last year when I left Phoenix on a road trip back to Miami
I drove up to Vegas to see a friend of mine and I made a detour to get to the west rim of the Grand Canyon. It is the only part of the canyon, as far as I know, where you are allowed to drive up to the edge and there is no rail, a la Thelma and Louise. I had my tripod and a remote switch, so I took these shots.

20. Very cool!
You didn't have to go on a guided tour? I heard the West Rim was only accessible to those who paid $30 for admission.

22. That is an option, but not a requirment
That problem with the west rim is that you need to drive through a 22-mile dirt road to get to it. It wouldn't be so bad if you had an SUV, but it sucks for a little Honda Civic as I learned when one of my tires fell apart on the way back. I had to drive on a spare to the nearest town, I think it was Kingman, where my second tire fell apart.

23. Considering we were in a rental Taurus...
...it was probably best to avoid the West Rim. There was the added benefit of bragging that we drove on Route 66 at long last.
