What irks you in your personal life and how do you stay positive?
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 08:20 AM by JoeMemphis
Yep, it's hard to do that when you're seeing that your job may go overseas because * thinks that it's a-OK. I'm in a situation where I'm angry, upset over a promotion that was promised 2 or 3 times over and my boss continues to sit on it. I know that many are worse off than I am in the * economy; many are laid-off and underemployed, and thankfully I'm neither. But it's a frustrating thing to work your tail off and create value for a huge company only to be rewarded with a meager .2% raise (why did they even bother?) and a promise to be promoted in a few months, and then have the promotion postponed because the doofus I work for didn't turn in the paperwork before the department went under a reorganization process that froze all promotions and raises. Yes, I work for a bunch of Republicans. :puke:

I have many things to be thankful for. I'm married to a wonderful woman (we just celebrated our sixth anniverary this month), we're both happily active at our church, and we have two cats that greet us at our door every afternoon and don't care where we are on the career ladder as long as we keep bringing the Fancy Feast home.

That job thing still bugs me, but I deal with it. What I do to counter my anger and disillusion at "corporate America" is, first of all, realize that my job does not define who I am and my value to this world and that I've got plenty to be thankful for. Instead of doing what * says and train for the benefit of my corporate overlords, I'm working 40 hours maximum a week (why do overtime? It all pays the same!), spending my spare time with family, learning another foreign language, improving my musical skills, and taking out-of-town trips much more frequently (never again will I have vacation time left over at the end of the year at work). I plan to spend some quality time helping my country by getting more involved politically, perhaps volunteering for Wes Clark's campaign so we can throw * and his corrupt bunch of CEOs out of the White House next year.

There! I needed to vent a little. I think the folks here at DU are certainly compassionate and willing to put up with it, though. I'm just glad I'm not a Freeper seeking compassion at Free Republic. They'd probably just tell me to get over it, support *, support keeping the troops in Iraq, work harder for my boss, buy more gas, and spend more money at Wal-Mart (watch out for falling prices!).

I know that we all are frustrated by the economy, the lies from * and Company, BBV, and you-name-it. What do you folks do to pull yourselves out of sadness/anger/whatever and redirect your energies in a more positive manner?

1. Hmmm...
Well...I like to write in my journal. I also try to find a spot for myself, either at the beach or in the upland forests (I live in Hawaii). Sometimes, when I am really down, I invite all of my friends to go camping out in the middle of nowhere.

That's what I like to do.
